eBay buyer bought by mistake and wants to cancel

Had had an item on BIN and someone bought it yesterday.
They then promptly emailed me asking if they could cancel the purchase as they bought it by mistake.
I checked out their feedback and it's good (over 100 all positive), and I could see they also had literally just in the last half hour received positive feedback from another seller for receiving payment for the same item I was selling.
Now, I think this was probably genuine as mine was slightly cheaper but I was offering collection only (with payment on collection) so they probably bought it by mistake not realising this and then went and bought another one.
I'm a bit annoyed because it means my item hasn't been for sale for some of the weekend, a prime shopping time and I need to make sure if I cancel the transaction I don't get charged final value fees or relisiting fees by eBay.
If I follow their procedure will this happen? And do you think I should request a small token gesture payment from the buyer for all the hassle or just leave it be?
Normally I wouldn't really care but it's quite a high price item (relatively speaking for me, a couple of hundred pounds) and I need to get it sold.

At the end of the day, he clicked buy it now, logged in, and then committed to buying.

I'd just file as non-paying bidder and relist.

i'd say no to charging him.

at least he's told you straight away and not led you on a merry dance lieing and pretending he does, then changing his mind halfway through the transaction or soething.

If you're unhelpful to him, karma is just gonna come back and get you ... Treat others nicely, and you'll find you get treated nicely too.

Give him a refund.

I've bought something on eBay by mistake before. The seller gave me a refund almost instantly. Don't be an arse about it, be a nice person.

Yeah, I'd agree with this. I've sold a fair bit of high value kit via the bay, and I've had little trouble. Most people, if you're reasonable, tend to be reasonable back.

It's not a matter of giving a refund, I haven't received payment. I don't want to be an arse either, just want to make sure I'm not out of pocket.
I didn't realise I could relist it straight away before resolving the issue! Nice one, just gone and relisted it and will simply follow the transaction cancellation procedure through ebay to make sure I don't get charged final value feel.
Bah, I should have asked this yesterday. Cheers :)

One annoying thing is although you get your final value back, eBay get you for another listing fee with buy it now.

So you are slightly out of pocket.

Well, the listing fee was only 40p, so I'm not really too fussed if I don't get that back. The final value fee would have been about £15 though along with the fact that it was taken down from sale for a while and I thought I'd have to wait until it got resolved before I could get it re listed. Oh well, I feel better about it now anyway :)

just do the whole 'me and the buyer agree to cancel the transaction' thingy, that way you get all fees etc refunded. he needs to accept that of course, but if he doesnt neg his ass and launch a complaint.

I've followed ebay's cancellation procedure choosing the option it gives stating the buyer wanted to cancel and explained the situation. I'm sure they'll get it sorted and I've relisted so all should be sorted. All will end fine I'm sure.
