Ive just ordered a 120gb hdd for my 20gb xbox 360,ive also ordered a transfer cable, are there any good guides about to show a noob how to safely transfer my gamer tag, saves, map packs and games ive bought and saved on the 20gb to the new 120gb ?

Its very easy. Old hard drive still in place. Connect the lead from old HDD to new one. Power up. Put the disc in the drive, launch it. Follow the on screen prompts. Transfer everything, takes a few minutes.

Done.

You don't even need the disk anymore. As soon as the transfer kit is connected, it prompts you to kick off the transfer process.

sweet, thanks guys altho i think i may have bought the wrong transfer kit,are they all the same or different ones ? the one ive ordered says its xbox to pc ? its got the slot for hdd at one end and a usb connecter on the other, doh !

great , it seems the transfer cable which ive now read should be avoided at all costs has changed my 120gb HDD into a 16gb flash drive, the xbox wont recognise it if its slotted in but will if its connected via the transfer kit and i cant seem to fix it ,thats 35 quid down the drain :(

Was it not the official cable?

could do , dont think that is going to save this HDD tho, apparently its been formated during the process (i didnt manually format it) so it maybe be b0rked now :(

it is able to be reformatted and changed back to 120GB though. i dont see why you didnt go via typical game shops and get it for £15 for the harddrive transfer kit??? why did you go to ebay and spend £35

The 120gb drive cost him £35, not the cable.

lol the kit was 4 quid , the HDD was 35 :)

i cant seem to format it at all, currently the only thing i can do with it is use it as a 16gb usb stick in the xbox , even my pc doesnt recognise it,not sure what to do with it , i cant send back the HDD if the cable has b0rked it :( stupid cable :(

i've got a spare official transfer cable i could send to you?
can i ask do you reckon the 120GB drive is a proper official one or one that has been made up by someone?

both the hdd and cable where NOT official ones,i eneded up taking the surround off the hdd and putting it in my lads PC because it worked perfect as a 120gb HDD it just wouldnt work in the xbox ,he needed some extra storage for his films anyway

my advice now would be to avoid these cables at all costs , just use a USB stick/usb hdd to transfer your files/gamer tags

Sounds like the 360 thinks it is a external drive, go to memory in the settings options and see if you can remove the 360 software from your hard drive while it is connected via the cable

You used to be able to order a transfer kit from MS for free?

I can't find a link, anyone find it now?

Edit just found it, no longer free in the uk on the usa.
