Been to look at a Focus ST

i dont think standard st's are that quick :confused: , remapped and an air filter and some other mods their totally different but standard their average in my opnion

Pretty much on par with other hot hatches of the same time, very good potential though with tuning.

Wouldn't say they are average - same as a Golf GTi of the same era.

i meant average with others in its class i do have a habit of skim reading and typing doh lol , my ibiza can match up to standard st's no problem and even pulls ahead on them but set off is dire with it being a diesel

air filter,Remap, coilovers and uprated clutch remapped to 208.1 bhp and 402.6 pound of torque , the ibiza isnt that light either still a good 1100 kilos according to manual

Yeah, I'm aware of the fuel costs (Was a toss up between this or an RX8, so fuel won't be an issue either way, but cheaper servicing and easier to get more out of the car led me over this way!)

Yeah I've looked over PH, most local to me seem to be private sales, which is then the hassle of trying to sort out selling my own car on too, which I just don't have time for right now, but will check this one out again tomorrow, then also double check the local area :)

Yeah Bi-Xenons were always standard on ST2 and ST3s, it should be heated leather as well as the heated windscreen. I dont think it's a proper Ford Manufacturer warranty like you do with 'Ford Direct' cars, as Ford Direct cars have to be quite new and low miles. I'm pretty sure its a dealer warranty.

Seems quite good for a facelift for £12k to be honest! Does it have anything else? Climate?

Hey all, just been tom look at a Focus ST this afternoon, just wanted to check a few things, mostly regarding price and features!

It's a 2008 ST3 in Panther Black on a 57 plate, 27200 miles, and up for £11,999, have been offedred £4200 for my 2004 Civic, so yeah, I know that means we'll give you £3,700 as the.Focus is worth about £11,500!

It mentions in the listing "p/h/d/m" not sure what this means? Also I assume hfs is heated front screen? Also bi-xenons listed, not sure if they were standard on the pre facelift ST-3? Also mentions 12 months ford protect warranty, not sure how much that means? Also a years AA cover as it is at a Ford dealership.

Is there anything big to look out for on ST's? I hear the Volvo derived engine is pretty bulletproof, but any big issues that I would be best looking out for?
Opinions? Looks spotless, off tomorrow to test drive tomorrow as there were 2 members of staff in today and it was 3pm and the Black one was right in the middle if the showroom, so took out a 59 plater to see if I like the delivery etc.. (and I'm sure they'd hoping I would shell out a further £3,000+!"

Wouldnt worry too much about the stuff to "watch out for"

at the end of the day its a used car from a ford main dealer. They arent going to be flogging a car they know is a wrong 'un because they offer 12 months warranty. Anything wrong with it and it will just come back to be fixed at their expense.

I'd check when the next service is due (bargain to get them to include F.O.C. in the sale price if its due soon) Also check the tread depth on the tyres. They wont be illegal, but it could be that one of them is due replacement soon so that gives you something else to bargain for.

Check the paintwork for any scratches / bumps / dings meticulously and make sure you see the car dry in this weather, as the rain can hide all sorts of imperfections. Most people wont care if the bodywork isnt perfect, but while they are selling it its a perfect oppertunity to get them to fix any imperfections for you using their dent / chip guy (dealers usually have one on contract to sort out this sort of stuff)

Likewise check the alloys., Again, if any of the wheels are curbed you want these refurbished at their expense not yours.

Honest john doesnt list anything to look out for specific to the ST

If you look at the Focus list, not a lot applies to the ST

Generally reliable cars.

12 months protect warranty is just the standard 12 months warranty all main dealers will offer on used cars

The Heated Windscreen and Xenons were standard on the ST2 and ST3

ST2 also had an MP3-compatible Sony stereo and ESP traction and stability management as standard over the ST1.

he ST3' also came with full leather, electric adjustment for the seats and a six-CD autochanger over the ST2

My suggestion is to check the fuel gauge. If its low, walk away. It's obviously been owned by a cheap ass.

Get over to the Focus ST forum, bunch of helpful guys that have good advice when I was considering one, including a dedicated buyer guide thread.

Some of the biggest issues are; turbo, clutch and rust (check inside doors/boot and beneath area).

Apart from that they are pretty much a nice piece of metal for the money, a remap would help it a lot too.

I decided against it in the end due to the FWD and manual.

press release given out on release said it did so just assumed it was correct. My apologies :) We all know press departments aren't immune from making mistakes.

Think the newer ones have it, as Fraud have stopped charging for everything, and just stuck everything on the last incarnation of the ST as standard. E.g. electric rear windows on the 5 door model etc. etc.

Ah fair enough, thanks, tbh the leather in the ST3 didn't look that great, not sure why it doesn't seem to suit hatchbacks as much!

Thanks MrLOL for the rundown on that, very helpful, certainly looks like it'd be a lot more of a bulletproof engine and car in general than the RX8, albeit a tad more generic in some ways, but maybe more unassuming in some ways, heck stop the waffle Tim, I just want one :D I know I've spent a lot of time messing around looking, but this is a very good compromise of everything I would like, so why not eh? :D Golfs carry too much of a premium, my girlfriend doesn't like the R26 and the Astra VXR isn't as appealing to me, also as she loves the Focus itself, that really helps, although tempted to hold out for one in performance blue!
