Most Overrated Band

I'd say U2. I've nothing against them musically, I just don't feel they're as good as the press make them out to be.

Bon Jovi would be a decent shout if they'd made a critically acclaimed record in the past 15 years, but they haven't. Apparently U2 have. Just don't see it myself.

EDIT: Oh and Muse. Bellamy is overrated as a guitarist. He's not as good as people think he is. The band are wildly talented songwriters but I think everything since Origin of Symmetry has been pretty poor, and I can't understand why people love. They've failed to turn that song writing talent into anything worthy of what they're truly capable of.

Hmmm, is this an 'overrated band' thread or is it a 'band you just don't like' thread?

Definitely an overrated bands thread, there are countless bands I don't like, but of them the one I feel is the most overrated is The Stone Roses, if this was a bands I don't like thread I could spend all day listing them.

U2 and Bon Jovi

While I accept they may have had a few big hitters I really do not understand why they are as massive and loved as they are.

Radiohead and Muse - nothing I've listened to by either of them has ever come close to making me understand why they merit the adulation they enjoy. They're not bad per se as in I can hear there is talent there but I think they're definitely overrated.

How come another thread had to be created 3 years on? Is it just to vent you dislike??

Agree with a lot of suggestions in this thread though.

Oh also Led Zeppelin, not including Stairway.

Get out of town!

Stairway was far from their highest point. Just listen to the lemon song turned right right up.

LZ were and tbqh still are one of the highest points in British rock music.

Just in case anyone missed my first attempt, U2 ;)

(For proof of this make a note to watch "it might get loud", ignoring the Jack White argument, marvel at just how out of his depth U2s best guitarist in the world THE EDGE is compared to the frankly masterful Jimmy Page)

Lol, I can't remember starting that one (must be my age). It just shows my opinion has not altered in the intervening period. :D

Just listen to the lemon song)

As I had never heard that song before I checked it out....it's horrible....whiney vocals and silly guitar stuff, some music I can usually say "Yeah I can get why people would like that" even if I don't, but so much of Zep's music I just find so boring.

Fairnynuff, i guess difference in musical taste is what makes music interesting :)

For me it shows just how well they managed to merge each of their respective talents into a frankly superb version of whatever it was they wanted to sound like at the time.

The lemon song, for me, is sublime, from JPJs funky bass to Plants faultless vocals (they might not be "growly", but that's cos he wasn't a growly singer, he had so much range its been reported since that the equipment of the time simply couldn't capture some of the noises he was able to make with his voice, mixed with him being a fantastic showman, find me a more talented rock frontman cos I think you'll struggle and the ones you present will almost certainly be trying to emulate Plant in some way) and of course Jimmy Pages guitar playing.

The only time they lost their way was on Houses of the Holy and even then the album had "No Quarter" on it.

But anyway, sorry thread derailment slightly, couldn't let Zep being added to the list slide without at least trying to argue ;)

Also, U2.
