New Office Mac 2011 details....

I've been using it for a while and the performance on a Mac Pro with a 5 worksheets and 10 graphs is god awful.

It takes a few seconds for things to happen if I want to change a chart title or something.

Or rending graphs, it pauses, then does it.

This isn't difficult MS, why can't you test things properly!?

I don't see this kind of thing at all? Even with quite complex sheets?

I agree, it shouldn't.

My main rig is an i7/8Gb/240Gb SSD so I guess that's not a fair comparison. I also use it on my Air 11.6" although to be fair I haven't tried my more complex stuff on there.

MacMini loads my AD based stuff just fine though? That's pretty significant? 200Mb cross-linked Excel sheet of a 600k user Active Directory.

I don't see pauses/stutters etc.

All my main machines are SSD based though.

What I'm getting at is that your issues could be elsewhere? Not sure how you'd fault find OSX though - which in itself is a good sign as I rarely have to!

Have a look at the app start times on my i7: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pq0t7_g1Zuc

Well my copy of office came in the post yesterday and I had my first use of it today (well word so far). Got to say its a real improvement over 08 in the word typing department, for once there's no (what I called) input lag, where typing something would take longer for it to appear on screen than it should. More importantly the real footnote system has been properly implemented on the mac version (it was done right on the last windows one but not osx) which is everything I wanted changed sorted :)

Downloaded my copy yesterday from the upgrade program - bought Office 2008 when a certain online retailer had it for about £60 and now have a 3 licence copy of Office 2011 Home & Student :)

It's a massive improvement over 2008...
Thinking of doing this but am I right in thinking that as it gets upgrades to 2011 Home and Student Entourage doesnt get replaced by Outlook since Outlook is only in the 2011 Home and Business package...

ps3ud0

I had the same offer and outlook is installed, entourage is gone

I've been using this a while at work.

Endnote support is lacking and pdf export (at least in excel) is chuffed - rasterises things. Er. No.

Hey Guys,

Like you I've discovered that the Home/Student version doesn't have Outlook, and to get Outlook you have to buy the £190 Home/Business version :(.

Well I've just been on www.theultimatesteal.co.uk and noticed that the Microsoft Office for Mac Academic 2011 is the full fat Home/Business version :D. Includes Word for Mac, PowerPoint for Mac, Excel for Mac, Outlook for Mac and Messenger for Mac. £49.99 for students :D.

Got that downloading right now!

Just need to work out what I'm gonna do when I get my MacBook Air now, as that Academic version is only for a single machine :(. Wonder when Office for Mac 2011 is gonna appear on Microsoft HUP, as right now it's still doing Office for Mac 2008....

What is better???

I use Mail at home with the Mac and Outlook at work's PC. I'm happy with both and can't really say one is better than the other TBH
