Hey all

I currently have a a 24" samsung tn panel and am considering buying a dell u2410 whilst its on the weekly offer and such a good price. Can i just ask those that have one, are they worth the price? Will i notice the different going from a tn panel? I use my computer a lot so the screen is important to me. I don't wanna spend a lot of money though if i'll hardly notice a difference, i've never used an IPS panel before so just wanted to ask.

thanks in adavance

I have one, I'd buy one again. It's noticably better compared to my other screen. I'd suggest you buy a screen similar to the one you already have though.

for me i did notice a difference, but it was only a cheap 21 monitor before, but then i got mine for 375 with a 5 yr warranty, not sure if the cost would be worth it if you have a decent tn panel

what i do love is the port hub and the vivid colours.

would i buy another? yes but for a similar price £400 plus is a LOT of money

Its all relative to what you had before hand, I have been thinking about getting one from when they first came out, but the initial problems with the tint put me off.

I finally bought one about 2 months ago and coming from a 17" TFT I was totally blown away not only by the size but the image quality in terms of the colours it displayed, suddenly I was noticing all this extra detail and shades of colour I was not seeing on my old screen.

But like with all things the monitor just seems normal now I have been using it for a while........ and its every other monitor I look at which seems sub-standard :)

Have a read, the review above should answer most of your questions regarding the U2410. It is a brilliant panel, especially once properly setup, but is a screen to avoid for gaming if you are sensitive to slow response times.

Even with motion compensation on, it still only manages a rather poor 14-20ms response. It is something most good TN panels can beat, which is why they are more often suggested for primarily gaming purposes.

No - it managed 14-20ms INPUT LAG. That is exceptionally good for any monitor. It is one of the reasons the U2410 feels so surprisingly responsive when you use it in 'game mode'. You should have a read of this review as it looks at things from an entertainment perspective.

I stand corrected. :D Just edited the GTG tag out as it was misleading - I have a bad habit of typing and reading at the same time! What my point alluded to, and both reviews rather gloss over, is the fact that there is a clear delay between user input e.g. a mouse button press, and the action reflected on the screen - not the actual animation. This can be easily measured with a digital camera or camcorder able to take enough shots per second, which captures both the person and the screen animation; which is more objective than a user based test, that does vary from individual to individual. U2410 is indeed better than the worst case scenario - larger Hazro screens and cheaper LCD tvs, with poor or no motion compensation; but is still not where a moderate to serious gamer won't notice.

Are you talking about input lag or response time here? Because input lag has always been one of the strengths of the Hazro screens (as well as other screens that don't have an OSD or an internal scaler to add processing lag). The Hazro HZ30Wi (for example) has an input lag of 14.4ms according to TFT central, which is the same as the U2410 in game mode, and less than the "regular mode" U2410 (at 33.8ms).

As for responsiveness, the Dell is a little better, though the difference is really not so big:

Anyone know if this offer is this weeks offer, or last weeks that they haven't finished yet?
I was due to order one of these next week when I get paid but as it's on offer now I just need to know whether to order it right now or I can leave it a few days so my bank balance isn't hurting so much :p

Well the figures themselves in the TFT Central review and the experiences shared in our review pretty much highlighted the input lag - as a positive attribute of the U2410. There is nothing to gloss over as it is a relative strength of the panel. The responsiveness is beyond most TN panels in practice. This is something that I thought should have come across quite strongly in our review. You probably need to have used one to actually appreciate this.

This Week only runs from Wednesday to Wednesday, they change the offers mid morning usually.

Thanks, and there's me thinking the week runs from Sunday to Saturday :p

Might as well order this now then, at least I get it early and it's going to be a huge upgrade from my current 2001FP (20inch 4:3 Dell).
