Would I benefit much from upping the ram to 2000mhz?

its not as easy as you think to get ram up to 2000mhz...even if its rated to do it.... there are other factors like cooling/airflow whether your chip can handle it and your board...im sure someone will jump in and explain it better but what im trying to say is 2000mhz isnt a done deal just cause it says it on a packet.....

im changing my 1600mhz dominator gt to 2000mhz dominator gt today and am going to try and get it to 2100mhz+ so i will let you know later the out come:D

Thanks, it would be nice to see if there are many performance increases :)

ok....so installed the dominator 2000mhz modules in replacement of the 1600mhz modules..... had my 1600mhz modules at 1560mhz with the 980x at 4.4ghz and have these new ones at 1925mhz with chip at 4.5ghz..... did get them up to 2125mhz but my machine although in windows stopped recogniseing all the ram.....sometimes it said 2gb others it said 4 or 6....so eased of the timings alittle and got stable at 1925 and 4.5... probably could go a bit more with more volts but im unwilling to push any more vcore through on advice of rjkoneil....vcores at 1.39

Sounds good, did you manage to get any benches done? Im a little confused when it comes to ram speeds, so the ram speed is always clocked down to the CPU's FSB?

on i7 it is bclk instead of fsb......changing the bclk changes the ram speed wheres changing the multiplier does not......getting a fine balance between them can be tough but with alittle patience you can get a good stable overclock..

as i said earlier just cause it says 2000mhz doesnt mean you can get it.......your car says 150mph on the speedo but most probably wont get anywhere near it....you could push it close but if you keep driving it like that it wont last long and will most likely crash..

I would doubt you notice any performance difference between the 2 speeds, unless in benchmark software.

I went with 1600mhz and this goes with my i7 920 @ 4ghz fine, Memory multiplier is at 8 and the BCLK @ 200mhz.

it feels alittle faster but its probably in my head.....im building a rig for my kids christmas and had a budget of £100 for ram in my head.....if i give him my old ram i put £50 to it and get the faster stuff. made sense to me

hmm ok thanks for the info, but im presuming the 2000mhz ram will clock down and with this bring enhanced latency? (its been a while since Ive done any overclocking)
