for wanting to upgrade now (as in right now) from my 5770 crossfire
to a 580 stock
(with a good 3 slot aftermarket cooler for near complete silence at a later date)

or should i wait for the new amd to possibly push to price down of these a bit more or even wait till one of them is on special offer on the overclockers front page or weekly deals.
Do you think we would see them at £350 or am i asking a bit much

any advice on what anyone else is doing would be nice
as i keep putting a 580 in my basket before quickly closing (lol)
so tempting

nothing stupid about wanting the "fastest DX11 GPU in the world"

crossfire scales poorly, so getting a single fastest graphics card will get your minimum framerates up, remove the ATi microstutter problem, and you can also enjoy the new Nvidia driver improvements.

If you have the money buying a gtx580 now is a decent upgrade i think over 5770 crossfire your main benefit would be better minimums but you would also see performance increases of about 40% on your average.

I would say though as you have a fast enough graphics setup to wait and see what happens when the 6970 is released as prices of the gtx580 may get lower or the 6970 may be faster at a lower price but its all conjecture at this point. if money is important i would say wait a few weeks but if you like to burn cash go for a gtx580 as its a nice card and won't dissapoint.

Agree with everything you say except this. Can you explain futher? It was my understanding that x-fire and SLI scaled very similar and they're both pretty good.

thought it was common knowledge that 5 series crossfire scales poorly? where have you been hiding too?

Even I can agree that xfire scaling " 68** " is now on par or even slightly better than SLI.

I dont think its stupid, if your happy to pay the price and are happy with the performance thats all that should matter.

Hardware prices always drop eventually. :)

Jesus wept, your silly fanboy remarks are actually quite embarrasing.

Crossfire does not scale poorly. Microstutter isn't limited to AMD hardware. AMD drivers also contain imrpovements.

Please, quit with the inane dribble you post all the time in the graphics forum.

...and I own a GTX460 before you call me an ATI troll.

Well said sir.

It seems you have not seen the 6 series crossfire scaling its a little bit better than sli now. I think someone done a percent of scaling showing over all games 6870 crossfire scaled around between 3 and 7 percent better than gtx460 sli over 2 reviews. I think the 5870 was around 10% worse than gtx460 scaling and thats where your view comes from.

it seems you have edited my post to remove the 5 series reference!!!

which the OP has!! two 5770!!!!

really have my mind set on nvidia but hopefully amd's card will lower the price and not increase them like what happened with the 5850 and 5870
and now i think about it there isnt nothing my 5770s cant play at max settings (1920 x 1200), its just sometimes you have to wait a month or 2 for good drivers with new games with amd espeically with crossfire.
Probaly more sensible to wait since the extra £30-50 in my pocket for waiting for a month will make me feels less guilty about buying it.

thankyou for helping me make up my mind
just have to not go the overclockers website for a little while to avoid temptation

I have not looked at 5770 crossfire scaling but from what people say they were the best scaling 5 series card. I am not sure and can't be bothered to look and see if they are on par with the gtx4 series. Perhaps you could show us how bad they scale since you are the one saying how bad amd scale in crossfire.

The 5770 crossfire scaling is good. performance sometimes better than 5870 espeically when overclocked in the average and maximum fps buts its the min that suffers a bit sometimes and thats probaly the most important.
