Religion - I can understand someone believing in god/jesus, but why do they believe in the bible?

Please don't.

Everything we read these days is about muslims. Myself? I've had enough of it. Lets not let a thread be overtaken by muslim rants here too. Enoughs enough.

Welcome, don't worry we are an equal opportunity rant forum...everyone can have a go, Muslims, Christians, Atheists, Agnostics, Loons, Nutters, Conspiracy Theorists, Bonapartists, Moonies, and even Creationists.;)

Sometimes I do watch stuff and it makes me think.
For instance I was watching a documentary on friday and part of it was devoted to this doorway built half way up a mountain in Peru.
Legend has it that the Shaman had a metal disk that was sent down from the heavens and by putting it on the door it would open up so they could travel rather like a Stargate.

The problem accepting theories about aliens visiting Earth in the distant past doesn't seem to take into account the fact that if they have the technology to travel across galaxies - and lets face it we now know the incredible distances involved - then surely there would be more evidence on Earth than stone carvings made by local tribesmen or the so called 'landing strips' in Peru type of thing would there not ?

Absolutely and if it was Aliens with advanced technology they would make a much better job of the Stargate I linked to and why would they need a runway on top of a mountain (and also taking into account the 'runways' aren't exactly flat).

Up until a couple of years ago I thought we were unique and the only planet harbouring life but I now think the Universe is teaming with life and will find a way anywhere it can.
I am 100% convinced that Aliens have never visited us and I've seen nothing to change my mind.

Unless aliens are from our own solar system then the speed required to travel from another star system is just incredible and Sci fi films over the years have given the impression that you can just flick a switch and go galaxy hopping

With the speed of light being over 669 million miles per hour it would mean a propulsion system we could barely even contemplate

Whats the name of that doc? sounds interesting.

the actual quote which according to rapid64K was for vonhelmet and he alone but I fail to see why

The quote was "Do not cast pearls before swine", the point being that it's a waste trying to teach people here as they don't care for it.

Whether I agree or not, that was the point.

Interesting post, sorry havn't read the rest of the thread just yet... will probably get around to it at lunch ;p

Actually you hit the nail pretty much on the head with me. Do I believe in God, Yes. Do I believe in Evil, Yes.

Do I believe that the Bible is largely speaking a pretty good guide on how to live your life, Yes.

However on the flip side I think it was written 2000 years ago in a completely male dominated society and that quite large chunks of it were quite possibly ommited by the early church - because they wanted to make a cohesive set of writings and to let them use the Bible as a method of control.

Then again that's been my stock problem with all religion.
