Hey guys,

I'm 21 and have made 2 threads about purchasing a mini cooper S but have come to the conclusion that I simply can't afford one yet. It's going to have to be a car I purchase in a few years time.

Anyway, I have £3,000 in my account and am of course always saving.

I was wondering what my best bet would be for £4,000 (I obviously have to save for the insurance as well)

I'm looking for something that is nippy, going to be a fun ride and not too expensive to run. I am of course looking second hand and would like a car that ideally has less than 70,000 miles?

Many thanks

I thought that would be the obvious suggestion, really can't stand the look of clios though which is pretty important to me. Sorry if that sounds really arrogant!

With regards to the MR2, whilst that's obviously out of the question because the insurance is going to be insane, I'm more than happy to listen to similar suggestions that aren't quite so unrealistic.

Cant stand the look of a Clio 182? It looks cracking, they turn heads tbh. What dont you like?

Could always get a 172 pocket the change for insurance and fuel, win win..

Try a quote with Admiral (add parents as named drivers too) before saying its insane, impossible etc.

Might well be now but wasnt back when I was 21.

What are the other options aside from a clio 182? I know the clio is pretty much the fastest car you can get for £4k but apparently it's built like absolute garbage from the top gear review, I'm not sure if that's a good source to go on though.

Some insurance companys will take that into account if you give them proof that you were a named driver.

Oh yea, I'm sure the fact that I've held my license for nearly 5 years will do me more good than harm :)

aka, Surely my quote would be lower than a 17 year old who just passed.

Built like garbage? Where are you based would love to show you how wrong the topgear review! A 182 is about the most fun you can have for 4K. Yeah its no German car.

YMMV but I've always found insurance quotes for MR2s to be not too bad.
