Are Treyarch riding on Infinity Wards success?

Just picked up COD: Black Ops and I can't help thinking that Treyarch are cashing in on what, in my opinion, is Infinity Wards superior games in the COD series.

In my local ASDA last night there were apparently 500 people waiting to pick up their copies at midnight - I could understand this for a new Modern Warfare game but I don't think this game is really all that good tbh.

IMO the last couple of Infinity Ward releases in the COD series have been sublime while the Treyarch versions have felt like they falling somewhere short.

Hopefully Modern Warfare will become it's own franchise and drop the COD name. Then Treyarch will have to survive on their own merits.

Apart from the fact that MW2 was cack.

COD4 > WaW > MW2

And I'm not talking about timelines.

Joe Average doesn't care.

Joe Average wants his next no recoil, small map, yawn-fest shooter instalment.

True, some people would rush to buy this no matter what, it's become the FIFA or PES of the FPS world. A yearly update with little or no change. Let the sheep have it, not my cup of tea on console.

MW2 was full of bugs, glitches and a short single player campaign. Hard to live up to standards like that.

MW was brilliant, MW2 was living on that.

MW2 "campaign" was terrible, multiplayer was enjoyable but full of issues, personally I don't see where all the popularity comes from.

I thought MW2 was terrible as well. So full of bugs and unbalanced from the off. Poor single player campaign as well.

Treyarch have a reputation of being second best, but WaW was great in my opinion. It had a few glitches early on, but they were resolved quickly. They offer better post release support than IW ever have done.

I got it today. think its quite good, but it isnt that much different to MW2. After I have prestiged I will probably be back onto BC2, not as many bugs on there and no perks like MW2\BO, however there is a barebones game mode with everthing stripped down, could be worth a look.

I really don't understand what the hate of Treyarch is about...

Call of Duty 3 had (IMHO) one of the best online experiences. I absolutley loved the use of vehicles, well thought out maps and so on.

I am actually glad that there are two developers. If we had one developer, it would be the same thing over and over again, with only one year to develop a fantastic game. That ain't gonna happen.

A lot of people hate Treyarch here for not being Infinity Ward. I thought that World at War was the best game in the modern Call of Duty's.
I have to say, i enjoyed World at war a lot more than Modern warfare, I just prefer the WWII setting. Also it had Kiefer (Jack Bauer) Sutherland barking orders at me which gives it many win points straight off the bat!

im sorry i dont agree as im also in the camp of WaW was greater then MW2 (i didnt play MW1 so i cant comment on that).

MW2 added a lot to the multiplayer but they didnt know when to stop and it turned into a killstreak fest.

WaW campaign was also far more interesting and enjoyable then WaW and im hoping after hearing a lot that BO is the best so far.

yes it is similar to MW2 but look at the current gaming world how many sequals are built on a new engine every installment other then when its a jump to a new generation of consoles, most current sequals end up being little more then an expensive DLC on a disk.

Personally, I don't like how often the games are coming out. MW2 only came out a year ago and the map packs some few months ago now is an entirely new game, they should give more than 12 months for a game.

It’s more like Treyarch are riding on the success of the Call of Duty brand name. I like Black Ops and the previous games but I feel Call of Duty was a lot better before it came onto the current gen consoles and was a PC game only. More effect was put into development back then instead of catering for the console hardware of today.
