If you knew there was a hell, would you do anything differently?

I believe inz nothingz Lebowski!

This is a quote from one of my faviroute films, yet it pretty much sums my belief system. Well not really, I wish I was brave enough to be a true believer in Nihilistic values, If we all did we may have a better, more agreeable lifestyle. However, I am a realest, also my friends think I am more like Walter. I'm rarely wrong, I'm just an ****hole

Nope, I treat people how I would like to be treated, even though I do make mistakes I sometimes regret them, but don't we all? - Three words that can be used here "It goes on".

If we're talking about a Christian version of Hell, then no, not particularly. I'll be going to Hell anyway, because I don't believe in Jesus. And I'm quite happy about that, I'd rather go to Hell then spend eternity in Heaven with a god who considers losing faith a crime.

Surely if you don't believe in Jesus that suggests that you don't believe in Heaven and therefore Hell to which you could not then go to...

Similarly, if there really is a Hell then Heaven must also exist and therefore God and Jesus who are supposed to forgive us our sins and let us into Heaven anyway... no?

I generally do good things for others, and I'm not selfish...so I wouldn't worry too much if there was a Hell; and would not change anything I say or do.

What are the criteria for acceptance....

technically I have committed one of the big sins, but Hell holds no fear for me, I've been to the Congo....

Well, I was speaking hypothetically. Assuming that it exists, and we are talking about the Christian Hell (and not some sort of non-aligned or other religious place of torment).

That said, by believing in him, I meant believing in his sacrifice, the acceptance of his deed thus washing away my sins and sending me to heaven.

And again, assuming we're talking about the Christian Hell, it is reasonable to suggest that heaven would exist. Although, that in itself assumes that the basis for Heaven and Hell are indeed accurate. There could only be Hell...and the queue for Hell.

If I'd do anything differently, that would mean I'm a "bad" person now. So no, I wouldn't change a thing.

If hell existed, and the bible was accurate. I'm pretty sure everyone would be going to hell. You don't go to hell for being bad, or evil. You go to hell for disobeying. And the amount of RULES in that thing called the bible, I'm pretty sure everyone in this thread would end up in hell.

Case and point, who in here had sex before marriage?

If you can just ask for forgiveness at the end, and escape. Fair enough

I used to believe in Heaven and Hell as separate places. Reading the bible and other early Christian literature has convinced me otherwise.

I believe we all get the same fate: we enter the fully realised presence of God. For those prepared, through their relationship to Jesus Christ, that presence is experienced blissfully. For those that are unprepared it will be horrendous - the knowledge of incredible love with which you can have no interaction. That's Hell, as I see it.

Then there's the issue of "Which Hell?". The original languages in the bible suggest that there are several different places (or states of existance / destruction) that for some reason all get translated as Hell in English.

I think that eternity may be something other than an infinitely long temporal duration though. Not quite sure what it will be like: something entirely outside the realm of my current experience anyway - ergo difficult to imagine or explain.

What to do then? For me, keep relying on Jesus. Nothing I can do without him can prepare me for God's presence (now or in eternity). Also I'd like to do what I can to help prepare others for what's to come.

Makes me feel like the geologist (I am one BTW) in a disaster movie trying to convince people that something very bad is going to happen and they need to do something about it...

No, I would live my life the way I want to, not a way some all powerful deity decides I should be leading it to avoid punishment. Hell is a stupid concept, it's essentially blackmail. "Be good and do this OR BURN!".

Yet, you let society tell you what to do, which I don't see as having more of a right to tell you what to do than an all powerful deity who created you would. Society says be good and don't steal/kill or you go to prison... Very much the same thing, yet you don't think of that as blackmail.

There is no hell.

I know this as fact as once, long ago, I offered my soul to the devil in exchange for nine wishes but never got them. Therefore the Devil does not exist, therefore there is no Hell.

9 Wishes is a lot to ask ;)

You've taken the Lord's name in vain? :p

talking about Wales, i did venture down there recently to pick up a motorbike, and it was indeed hellish

Ah but were you stalked by sheep, Tefal or did you simply discover that it's the only country in the World using a Latin based alphabet where the values in Scrabble are reversed - getting a vowel doesn't help you here boyo. ;)

i used to be dead, before i was born. there was'nt anything before that so there won't be anything after. question does'nt make sense.
