Mackie MR8's

FWIW I'm using Event TR-8's, they're around £500 and rather poorly made IMO.

The amps melted due to lack of heatsink, so I would avoid these.

I managed to fix mine in the end, but this turned out to be a lot of hassle and loads of soldering...

I just hope whatever you get has better build quality than my TR8's. :)

Probably but you would need a dual RCA Phono -> 3.5mm jack stereo lead to do so and even then it would be unbalanced (resulting in EFI).

I would strongly recommend getting an audio interface as the latency on your motherboard will be silly for any professional DAW work you want to do. This will severley impair your workflow.

Any of the M-Audio USB interfaces priced at around the £150 mark will serve you well although my recommendation would be the previously mentioned M-Audio Firewire Solo. I have this on my mastering computer and it's absolutely fantastic for the money!!

Yeah thanks I rang the shop up after I posted and they said the same, unfortunately they had sold the last M-Audio CX8's earlier today so I couldnt order them. Hopefully they will get some more stock later this week. By getting the audio interface later I would be able to get the M-Audio Firewire Solo you originally recommended.

If I can order this week the basket will contain..

SINN7 Monitor Pads (set of four) £ 18.99

Die Hard 3.5mm Stereo Jack - 2 x RCA Cable £7.39

M-Audio CX8 Studiophile Active Studio Monitors (Pair) £ 415.00

Grrr!!! Theres no timescale on when a new batch is coming in. Anyone know a good place online to order these CX8's. The price differences between stores is shocking on these speakers.

I'd be amazed if you can get a pair of CX8's for £415 for the pair, the cheapest I can find them online is £500.

Edit - deeper Google search brings up the pair for £415, crikey.

Have you tried the village a la digital?

They are £285.00 per unit there.

LOL! See what I mean? Where did you see them for £415 was it at decks? I rung them up to do a price check because i thought maybe they had made a mistake. I've seen places selling them for up to £400 each.

Interestingly, I ran a price beat at DV and I've just had an email back saying they will do £408 for the pair including delivery.

If I were you, I'd do the price beat too and order them from DV, as they now do a 4 year warranty on all of their products and their service is top notch.

Ok they gave me the same price they gave you £408. Just rung up to reserve them, off to the bank now to put some money in before I order. Thanks mate!!!!

I finally got round to setting it up and one of them isnt working properly, the tweeter works but the main speaker isnt. so it looks like i'll be testing their 4 year warranty out on monday. :(

Arg! Nightmare!

Hate it when stuff like this happens when all you wanna do is just start mixing some tunes!

Good luck with the speakers hope the replacements work out ok for you buddy!

Thanks mate! They are both packed up ready to go back tomorrow.

The shop called earlier, to let me know theres no more stock, so it looks like i'll have to get a different brand.

I recently bought two Tannoy Reveal 501a Active Studio Monitor's as i was on a budget and they sound great (good reviews and good advice from the shop i bought them from) only £125 each as well.

I was looking at the MR8's but be prepard they are larger than you think and if desktop space is at a premium then you might need to think twice..here's a pic of my set up..bear in mind the speakers are sat on high density foam slabs the Reveals are only 5” (130mm) LF/MF driver and 1” (30mm) soft dome tweeter delivering wide frequency response of 64Hz – 30kHz they sound ok for what i do with them ;)

p.s the monitor is only 20.1" so it gives you some idea on the size and the external sound card is an Presonus Audiobox USB 2 channel box.

Nice set up you got there. Space isn't a problem there gonna go either side of a 32" Samsung. The M-Audios were bigger than I expected but they fitted in ok. Unfortunately only the tweeter worked on one of them so back they go. The one that worked did sound good though. LOL!

Nope they are not sure. They did offer to send it to be fixed and to give me £25 back, but im not doing that. I will wait to see what they say tomorrow, i'll probably end up with some KRK's now.
