New car. Skoda still looking likely

If you want a Skoda, buy a Superb. The Superb is a genuinelly excellent car, whereas the Octavia is merely a 'good value' car.

Nowt wrong with shortened links, but the forum trims them anyway and I quite like to see what site I'm clicking on.

Anyway, get a 10k Octavia spend your whole budget on a superb

I've owned an Octavia vRS for just over two years now and I still smile when I drive it.
So understated, but plenty of power when you need it.
I love the Mk2 I've got, but the Mk2.5 which would be in your budget is just even nicer - I'm looking at one myself around the middle of next year.

Mine has been 100% reliable - not even a whisper of a problem.

Well the Octavia must be at least half decent, otherwise where would the 'good value' be? ;)

checking out the Superb too as per recommendation. Heading down a dealership this weekend to testdrive one. If all goes well, im hoping to be picking one up next week. Superb or Octavia.

Maybe times have changed? But wasn't driving a Skoda the most embarrassing thing EVER !! Regardless of whether they are now well built blah blah blah.. It is and always will be a Skoda.....

Resale prices says it all.

Absolutely, I get to buy them cheaper because some people are stuck in the 80's.

Another vote for the vRS if you go for an Octavia (the Petrol not the Diesel)
You shouldn't need to spend £16k to get a decent 1yr -18month old car with under 20k miles. Probably more like £12-15k.

The superb is also an excellent car. I thought it would drive like a supertanker with such a long wheelbase, but it is suprisingly agile.

If these car discount websites are to be believed for a mere £791 on top of your budget* you could have a brand new vRS ;)

*See how easy that is when it isn't your money you are talking about :p

Thankfully most people "in the know" don't still live in the 80s.
The Octavia has always been a nice car - the Mk1 was hardly bad.
I don't think anyone in the industry would describe them as an embarrasment.

VW themselves are scared of the Skoda brand because those that look around can buy a Fabia over a Polo, an Octavia over a Golf or a Superb over a Passat - get very similar spec, very similar performance but save themselves a whole heap of cash.

I ordered a specced up diesel thats just been built for £19k. Cracking deal. If you order new be prepared to wait 5/6 months for it. I ordered mine at end of june and its only just been built.

Is there something about the diesel Octavia I don't know about? They seem to be for sale everywhere while a petrol is much more rare to find.
