All according to FUD so take with usual bucket of salt!
6970 released 29th Nov:

The latest info that we have received on Cayman is that there might be a launch this month. It appears to be delayed by a single week and that the company will make it for a late November launch.

We’ve been hearing November 22nd as the launch date and some other people have indicated mid of that week and now the date is November 29th, but again things tend to change far too often.

We are not sure on the quantities and availability but ATI might have more cards than the competition expected. We are not sure about the performance, early report was that the prototype was slower than GTX 580, but who knows, with a tweak or two as well as an increased clock and better drivers, Cayman might have a chance. In any case it will be a very close race.

The plan is to launch Radeon HD 6970 and HD 6950 together, while the X2 dual chip version aka Radeon HD 6990 comes later, most likely in early 2011.

Now let’s go after that final spec.

And GTX570 soon:

It looks like the GF110 core will find home in one more card. Nvidia has just launched the Geforce GTX 580, also known as Fermi done right and you can take a look at our thoughts here, and there will be one more card to come.

Geforce GTX 570 is the name and it is based on the same chip but instead of 512 shaders enabled, the new card has one cluster less and 480 shaders, like the GTX 480. We can do the math and tell you how many other parts you care about Nvidia cut out, but we will wait to see the specs before we jump the guns.

The launch date has been set for this year, but we still don’t know exactly when. The interesting point is that this card should offer similar of faster performance than the GTX 480 at a lower price simply as the shader count is the same, and this new chip clocks higher.

We will try to find out more, but one thin is very clear, this card replaces GTX 480 and launches soon. (That's two things. sub. ed. )

Tbh its going to be the renameing all over again...

the 480GTX will now be the 570GTX :P
Well, it's not really that much different from 5870 going 6870 (and the labelling with a lower model number going from 480 to 570 actually make more sense than the 6870, as it is slower than the 5870). And it's not just renaming as you pass it off as, the GTX570 would have lower power consumption and runs cooler than the GTX480. Also if the price is lower than GTX480, I don't see anyone would complain.

Looks like Nvidia is gonna be pitting the GTX570 against the 6950....

Atleast NVidia retain the same numbering scheme for their "newly tweaked" products. GTX470 to GTX570 and GTX480 to GTX570 makes a lot more sense than 57x0 to 68x0 and 58x0 to 69x0.

For once, ATI win the war on misleading punters.

AMD needed to free up some numbering space for Fusion. Fusion is already occupying 61xx to 63xx.

EDIT: I wish Fuad would stop changing his mind..delayed then not, then delayed again then not so much. Hopefully it is on target
