Dude there are already 2 gig cards out there, made by third parties, the only reason for a two gig card would be to have a higher resolution monitor, perhaps beyond 30 inch resolutions.
Also, the 2 gig card then takes 2 gig away from your system RAM, because for some reason according to what I have read, video card RAM must use system RAM, so perhaps 2 2gig cards would suck a lot of system RAM up...therefore slowing down a 4 gig Sandybridge system.
Otheres may disagree, but thats my tuppance worth.
The GeForce GTX 580 is nice but I will wait for 2gb graphics card in 2011 I am pretty sure I read somewhere that next year nvidia will release 2gb card. I think the story somewhere that I read cant remember what site now but I do think its coming a 2gb card.
I'd like to be able to run new games at max quality at 2560 x 1600 (30")
I'll be happy if 2011 can bring that.
Out of interest, are nVidia going to GlobalFoundries for their next node or sticking with TSMC?

Nvidia are sticking with TSMC, whereas AMD are heading to global foundries. At least as far as I'm aware.

Assume you are running 32bit if your losing system RAM to graphics?
If so its the old 32 bit 4GB limitiation kicking in. Ie 32 bit can only address 4GB of memory, total. So if you have 2GB on a graphics card it can only address 2GB of system RAM (ie 4-2 = 2).
64bit OS gets round this, it can address something like 128GB and hence isnt going to be an issue for a while yet![]()
I thought Nvidia were 100% TSMC but ATI were going to use both GF and TSMC?
Unless your running 32bit applications.....
