just insured my car and got a reduced rate for only doing around 8000 miles a year, how do the insurance company know how many miles i've done??? they've not asked the current milage

They dont, and dont care anyway. I have never been asked for my cars mileage despite a recent write off, and other incidents.

Isn't it recorded on the mot? If you are the only driver insured against the car you'd probably have a hard time proving someone was driving it on DoC?

my brother has DOC insurance with his policy, he can drive my car third party, there is no reason he couldnt have done 10,000 miles on it ?

Unless your MOT was issued the day you took your policy out how is it any use?

yes thats what i thought , think they must rely on all the honest people ringing them up to say can i pay you some more money as i've gone over my allowance :p

It's difficult to prove, which is why it makes only a small difference to the premium. Saying that, if you crash on your way to work 60 miles away and its the only way you can get there, it doesn't take a genius to work out that you're doing more than 3000 miles pa
