This is jobsworthiness (made up word) at its highest.

Harrison Ford has told an interviewer that he was asked for ID to buy alcohol - at the age of 68.

Now come on, I've heard they're strict on underage sales of alcohol in the US, but really, 68? I know he's still fit enough to do Indiana Jones stunts but he looks a little over 21.

Reminds me of that McDonald's advert from years ago when the employee asked Alan Shearer for his signature to prove it's him!

I've never been to the states - is it really that bad out there for this sort of thing?

thats ridiculous ! young people dont like beeing get singled out so they ask everyone.....

in soviet russia I.D asks you !

makes about as much sense

Maybe he didnt want to ask 'Are you Harrison Ford', so instead asked to check ID

"Yes sir, I'm afraid it's a new measure. All people requiring our alcohol from our store must now sign a 3x5 publicity photograph of themselves before we can accept their age. Twice.

Oh, and if you could just put 'To Bobby' at the top, thanks"

Some places just have it as standard policy. For example, it's just easier to card everyone to cover themselves with the cops than to use judgement. I recently got carded in Edmonton, Alberta in Canada (I'm 29 and look it, admittedly not 68) and the bouncers just said it was a matter of fact that anyone who wants to go in their bar gets ID'd.

Yeah. I have a friend who recently went to disneyland with his family. He's in his 40's, and looks it........ but he said he was ID'd in every bar he went.

I agree with the guy that said Harrison only mentioned it to stroke his own ego.

He could be a terrorist.

Obviously getting him to provide ID will mean Al Qaeda's plot to build a mosque on the White House will be foiled by IDing the elderly.

Maybe he was secretly asking for his autograph?

Oh my word. Are people really looking for any excuse to have a moan? It's *BLATANT* that the guy/girl behind the till just wanted confirmation that it actually is Harrison Ford.

Usually at supermarkets and liquor stores in USA they will have a notice saying that if you look under 40 (fourty) you need to show ID.

ho hum..

If it's store policy that you ask everyone for id why is some poorly paid cashier going to risk the warning/firing just so someone who couldn't be bothered to bring their Id can buy their booze?

Would you expect a bouncer to let you into club just because you forgot to meet the dress code?

people are paid to follow their employers rules not make their own up.

I'd stand in front of it, with a bag of sand and pick the alcohol up and drop the bag in it's place. :D

Obviously the above would only happen if I was Harrison Ford.
