Gaming benchmarks does not take into account anything ‘written by AMD to make Radeon look good’. That’s a showcase, not a benchmark.

Nvidia did say they would have the fastest dx11 card this year guaranteed & i assumed when they said that they meant the fastest for the whole of 2010.

Time will tell, but if AMD is delayed & does not appear til start 2011 you would like to think with that extra time they could bring out something that will top the GTX580.

Why do people think this, the chip taped out 5-6 months ago, as did the GF100 base layer respin, I mean, the 580GTX. You can change the final clocks give or take 5-10% thats just about the only "final minute" change you can make, and by final minute I mean, the only real changes you can make within around 8 months of release of a card.

5-6 months ago would be the main tape out of the core, there are NO changes at that stage, a respin is possible but adds a couple months to the release date. GF100 needed 2 respins(or was it 3) hence coming much later than they wanted.

Before that tape out, the final design is all but set 3 months before that and is mostly just being optimised for orientation and spacing of transistors.

Honestly 5-10%, with the ups and downs of benchmarking, 30% ahead in one benchmark, 20% behind in another, doesn't change things drastically.

If it beats it, it was always going to beat it, if it doesn't, it was never going to.

The article makes it sound like it will be situational and a 60/40 thing, so possibly a misleading title. It doesn't really mean anything until we see detailed charts as they could have been using MLAA instead of MSAA on the 6970 for all we know.

Your link provides nothing to back up that claim up, just some dodgy site looking for traffic. It's not worthy of a thread, it should have been posted in one of the other 69** threads. As Marine pointed out it's just troll bait when using that title with no credible source.

I feel like you don't quite get the conept of trolling. Seeingly quite a few people around here seem to be the same. Disagreeing or having a different opinion isn't trolling, even though it's often claimed to be.

Are people that bothered about others suggesting a 6970 is going to be faster than a 580? My opinion is that the 6970 will be a fail if it doesn't at least equal a 580.

This too, I can't understand how suggesting a 6970 will beat a 580 will be flamebait. I find it an interesting title, as I said above, AMD has no excuse for a 6970 to be slower than a 580 considering the time lead they have. 6900s are a generation ahead of the Fermi cards. (Yes Rroff, they are).

On the flipside the 6970 would have to fail heavily not to match the GTX580 even the weakest rumoured spec would put it approx. 3% faster than the GTX580 overall.
