AMD HD6970 guaranteed to beat GTX580, according to sources

Sure they are both the 1st Generation DX11 hardware from the respective companies but you just told me we can't compare against different companies??? in terms of technical capabilities which is what matters Fermi is a generation ahead... sure nVidia could throw a "GTX680" out the door tomorrow with some minor tweaks over the GTX580 and we could call it 3rd generation but no one would give a ****.

I think you're kinda missing the point here

Wait there then, by your logic the GTX580 is actually 4th generation DX11, and the GTX680 will be the 5th generation! Ah I get it now...

I am sure Bruce will know the answer. :D

Missing the point in what way? I've been pretty clear from the first time this topic came up that I'm talking generations in terms of technical capabilities, I've always agreed with the generations in terms of new releases.

Its not that unusual actually. Tho its getting more subtle these days.

Fermi was already a generation ahead of evergreen in terms of technical features - even if the design wasn't the best for the material process.

How many times and in how many threads are you going to keep arguing this Rroff?
I find it very hard to believe you don't realise Fermi & Cypress are the same Gen, architectural Features are just that, so if a company brings out a super cool new feature, it doesn't mean the card is next next neeeeext gen...

The 6 series brings the technical feature level upto the same level as Fermi.

I'm not bothered if it does beat it. Of course I might have slight regrets I didn't wait because of couse logically it would have made sense to wait then go out and buy 2 580's. But I do insane things with graphics cards all the time. Went from Sapphire 5870 to 2 Sapphire 5870's to 2 Sapphire Toxic 2gig cards to 3 Sapphire Toxic 2gig cards to 3 GTX 480 to 2 5970 4gig Sapphire, back to 2 GTX 480, and now 2 GTX 580. I've a 3rd GTX 580 on the way. Makes no sense at all but there you have it. I still run the the 5970 4gig x 2 setup on a 2nd rig :)

1 thing I will say - is I'm having a much better driver experience with Nvidia. No more gsods, vsods displayport issues etc.. Strangley only had the problems on non reference cards. And I do think the games I've played so far provide a slightly smoother gaming experience on my Nvidia setup. Possibly less micro stutter is a factor here.

Anyway it will be interesting to see how fast the 6970 is.

Ah man. Howmuch money do you have:eek::(

I think what you're trying to say is that fermi is ahead of it's time, you may well be right I stopped caring about features and buy based on performance these days. The fact of the matter is that fermi is not a generation ahead so you're basically getting mad over semantics.

It's actually going that way because of people like you.

The title was copied & pasted from the article, didn't realise I had to edit titles of articles to avoid being jumped on!?
If your fanboy ego feels threatened by the title and your not mature enough to deal with it, then I'm sorry you feel like that.

Above all though, please stop crapping all over this thread...
Fanboy ego? And what fanboy may I be? I can swear to god that I'm not biased toward red or green, and always comparing the good and bad of cards from boths sides objectively...I would love to see you to declare you are doing the same...wait, guess you will have a hard time convincing people, considering almost every single post you made is UP AMD/ATI and DOWN Nvidia.

And don't you dare try pinning this one on me. You deserve all the credit for single handedly starting yet another AMD/ATI vs Nvidia battle. If your intention was purely for sharing the info, then you should have post in the *** Any 6970, 6990 info, pics & leaks post in here *** thread instead of going out of the way to make a separate thread.

Just look at kylew and Rroff going at it...you can seriously put on a straight face and saying "Nooo...I have no idea this was gonna happen by starting a thread like this..."?

I don't really consider I was going at it tbh I was expressing an opinion... don't see me making comments like the one kylew did a couple of posts back... I disagree with his opinion but I don't see a need to make it personal.

I know, but my point is you and kylew shouldn't have to have this arguement (or 'conversation' if you prefer)...AGAIN, if this thread didn't exist. Sorry for quoting you as example...there's no deep meaning to it but you and kylew just stood out the most :p

could be bothered to read so many pages but i bet 580 users will bu gutted if its going to be same story as 280 just worse. 580 will drop price more then around 100 £ and competitors card if its going to end up faster its just worse for nvidia 580 users.

thats what you get if you are not patient enough

Oh come on, talking poo? That's getting personal? You say far worse things, let's not play the victim again now. I've noticed you tend to do this when you don't have a strong argument.

What we were actually talking about wasn't particularly relevant to the thread itself anyway really.
