How does this look for a budget PC for my dad in regards to playing FSX and perhaps F1 2010?

will the components work nicely together and offer him what he needs at a budget price?

How will the I5 hold up in the long run?

Resolution he runs with is 1680 x 1050.

why the Sammy F3 and F4. Just get a 1TB F3.

That would be a great gaming rig in general. FSX is tricky as it is very dependent on settings you prefer etc. Is that all that is required? PSU? Case?

Damn Si105 beat me to it.

Looks great. The i5 is a wonderful chip and probably the best option for a gaming CPU today. How it will hold up in the future, i'm not sure. But it is a true quad core with loads of overclocking potential - so it should last a while.

I assume your Dad already has a case/PSU/DVD drive that he can use with this stuff. Also, do you know what make and model his PSU is, as it will need to be something half-decent to cope with a quad core i5 + GTX 460 system.

May I ask why you are going for two different mechanical hard drives?

He won't be messing around with RAID. 2 different drives to seperate OS/installations and Storage.

got to remember I'm sticking to a budget, wanted to make sure the performance was in the CPU and the GPU.

What would be a better drive combination?

Just get two 500GB F3s?

Looks like a good set up there. There was a another recent thread on building for fsx.
link Few useful links in there.

The i5 would be fantastic for fsx, esp if it can be overclocked. Two hard drives is a good idea esp for fsx.

If you can stretch a £10, might be worth considering the 1GB Gigabyte GTX460 over the ocuk one.

i was under the impression the new 320gb F4's were very quick new drives? thats the reasoning by having that one, just little bit of extra speed because i can't stretch to SSD.

Check the posts in the other FSX build thread and you may want to check out the many info links I have posted in the Official FSX Thread in Games.

In a nutshell: FSX loves CPU Ghz & cores, decent 1000MB+ video card (GTX range best choice for FSX in general even frames), last but not least a dedicated HD or SSD for FSX that is strong on random reads (Vraps best value/speeds).
