Omnia HD on contract?

It's 18 months old, none of the major 5 will give you a contract on that. If you really want one (honestly, I'm struggling to work out why considering competition) I'd go the ebay route + sim only contract.

What, is there something similar that is cheaper and offers better functionality?

I actually really like symbian, but admit i haven't used any of the new OSs

I use my phone for TomTom though would consider other sat nav systems, and music.

Get yourself down to your local phone shop and have a play :) In terms of successors you'd probably be looking at the Nokia N8 for symbian, a High end android (HTC DesireHD/DesireZ, Samsung galaxy S) or an iPhone. Sat nav is available on all (ovi maps for nokia, google navigation for android and a bunch of 3rd party solutions for iphone including tomtom but you pay for them all), all 3 will do music fine.

I'd recommend looking at some reviews (engadget is a fairly good source for them) of each and have a play with them all to see if you get along with them. quidco + buying online should enable you to net a phone for £25pm.

Firstly, how much are you hoping to pay per month for the contract, and what duration?

If you haven't tried any OS's other than Symbian, then you are missing out. There is only one reason to use Symbian at the moment, and that is if you need the camera quality of the Nokia N8.

Sat nav and music, the iPhone 4 would fit the bill very well, though its far from cheap.

Nearly any of the newer top end phones will do what you need, and do it very well. They aren't all 'expensive' either, so do a bit of research on whichever one you prefer.

Myshra has said everything else worth saying, as well as making decent phone suggestions.

Ok i've been searching and there is just far too much choice.

Anything would be an upgrade at the moment.

I use both turn by turn navigation, and music heavily. And take the odd picture. Other than that i use general office stuff like calculator and currency converters and timers.

Video is not important to me at all.

£25pm is my maximum

The Nokia N8 might be up your street then. It comes with free turn-by-turn navigation and runs the latest version of Symbian.

I wouldn't recommend the N8 if he's only taking a the odd pic/no video. Wouldn't the cheaper C7 be better? (N8 without the 12mp camera)

Here's another option..

T-Mobile are running a good deal atm. £20pm (300min/unlimited txts/3GB data) and a free, newly released Motorola defy (worth £320 sim free) + £80 cashback from quidco.
That has all the usual free Android mapping apps (turn by turn navigation, street view, google earth etc) + drag & drop folder playlists too.

The phone is quite bulky though (13mm thick) as it's IP67 compliant.

It means the phone will work whilst submerged in a pint of beer ;)

Here's a decent run down.

T-Mobile shops should have some demo handsets by now, defiantly worth a look.

Clicked on this through quidco, it shows unlimited internet/data which according to the fair uses policy is just 1GB not 3GB

Edit - spotted andriod users get 3GB - ordered cheers.

Still no working demos here, just the usual model... it feels great in your hand though, palm pre esq but all 3.7" xvga screen goodness :) Great build quality too, if Motorolas blur UI is ok to use I'm getting one! (hope they update it to 2.2 ASAP)

Let us know how you get on.

From what i've read 2.1 is a little more lightweight and the phone specs might struggle to be snappy with 2.2 installed.

T-Mobile don't recognise my address and want a £100 bond. Going to have to wait until payday now.

The specs are great!!!!

TI 45nm 800Mhz A8 cortex.
PowerVR 530.
512mb memory.
~2gb internal storage

That's the same ball park as a Desire Z and older 1Ghz 65nm snapdragon phones....

Add the 3.7" XVGA IPS display, good 5mp camera, a 1540 mAh battery etc and you've got a real sleeper phone going on ;)

It'll pwn 2.2, (looking at the youtube vids it even runs 'moto bloat' very quickly :))

The only issue is with Motorolas software department... (who were probably too busy working on its flagship Droid 2, which is release at the same time)
