I am not sure if this is the right area for this, mods please correct if i am in error to put it there.

I have a TV tuner HVR-1300 with hardware encoder built-in (PCI) and i was thinking of upgrading it to an USB version, i was wondering are there any usb tv tuners stick which has hardware encoder or are they powerful enough to use without.

Since it all digital now???

Reason why i ask it taking a slot out of my system which i could use for another graphic card in sli mode, my system specs are in my below.

If you still want the hardware encoder then take a look at the hauppaugge hvr1900. I cant honestly say that ive noticed much difference between cards with or without the encoder and believe me ive tried a LOT of cards and usb sticks in my time (hvr 900, nova-td, nova-t, hvr 1300, nova-500, compro e700, pinnacle 7070ix, various blackgold cards and many many more).

If you only want digital and dont care about the encoder then the nova-td isnt a bad usb stick - it uses diversity to combine the signal from 2 antenna's - may help in weak signal areas but as I have line of sight to the transmitter at crystal palace doesnt make much difference to me.

okay thanks for getting back to me i thought this was an hopeless thread, i will look at the hvr 1900, also with the encoder was it mainly for analogue or was it for recording digital???
