Do you recognise these student rioters?

For me it was purely down to not knowing exactly what I wanted to do with my life at 18 (If I was adamant on being a lawyer/doctor/etc it would have been a different story), and didn't want to spend time and money on doing a degree just for the sake of it.

Well, I think that's another angle on it tbh matey. I'm sure plenty of people don't know what they want to do either at 18, so go to uni because it's the "thing to do". Some may not want something too taxing, which is why we get so many doing degrees that seem somewhat pointless.

If you're going, you should have a plan and take it seriously rather than treating it as 3 years of getting wasted. An old mate of mine got an awful Comp.Sci degree because he was constantly wasted. He ended up doing another course afterwards (can't remember if it was vocational or another degree) to sort his life out when the penny dropped that employers wouldn't give him a second look.

They're university students, university students are traditionally offended by all manner of things, preferably anything that can result in a "campaign" against the powers that be. Reminds me of that show a few months ago by Alan Davies on BBC where he covered his youth and talked about his time at university, at one point he mentions getting involved in the greenham common campaign because it was "the done thing" at Uni. I even saw some interviews over the past few days with some students who were there, saying that they went because its what you do at Uni, so no grandiose principles on their part then. Not much has changed really imo, uni students and a campaign against the suits is something which goes hand in hand now.

Now thats not to say that sometimes they dont have a point, its just that now when I see a bunch of students "campaigning" about something , I tend to just roll my eyes , think oh..again.. and continue with my life. Even if this blows over the next wave of Uni students will find something else to rebel against the man over, probably the mistreatment of panda bears in captivity or the plight of the natives of Kuala Lumpur.

I would now increase fees to £10k to pay back for the damage they did to the building.
I Like... :)

Government: Fees are being increased to up to £9k per year
Stundents: Lolz we're in your HQ trashing your W1d0wz
Government: Fees are now being increased to £10k per year - your move...

I wonder how many economics students attended the protests.

'Give us back the unsustainable funding which is helping the country amass trillions of pounds of national debt' - 'No, you cannot have a placement at our bank'.

This annoys me, beyond belief!

The fact that most of those pictured won't even be at uni if and when fees are raised adds to my frustration about how thick some people are.

Yeah, where will we be if Brits start thinking about people other than themselves? Socialist hell that's where.

I hope it is the dumbass courses like BAHons in David Beckham that cost the full £9k.

The government should reduce the price of courses for the sectors of the UK that need growth too.

These tuition fee changes are about creating a market for higher education, therefore it'll be courses that are in demand (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) that lead to better job prospects that will cost the most. If you want to go to University to doss around for three years, then I'm sure BA(Hons) David Beckham studies will offer much better value for money than it does at the moment.

Great I'm studying Mech Engineering. I can't seem to find out, will this affect current students?

They did not have adequate man power to prevent the violence, they did not have potential targets (Tory or LD HQs) barricaded (either fences or arm in arm riot police)

I never said police should STRIKE first, they should only ever "reply" (ie no use of tear gas or water cannons until trouble starts), BUT the police did fail in having a man or real fence around this building or even preventing people getting there in the first place.

you are the kind of left wing, moon maiden tree hugging whale kisser that would say totally the opposite again if the police came out of the blocks swinging batons and riot gear when it kicked off.

Why should we the tax payers have to front a massive policing bill for an operation like this just because some dope smoking half cut hippies think they can smash the city up because they don't like the current governments policies ?

couple of armoured vehicles, a water canon and some tear gas would have sorted this out very early on before it got out of hand.

I'm LEFT wing? That's a new one, I'm a Tory supporter mostly ...

Because that is the job of the police?

You see, in the mind (used losely) of a moron you could be a drug dealing kiddy-fiddler, yet the people who report you to the Police are somehow worse, a"grass". Never understood that mindset.
fixed

Fixed for the better. They're only worse to those associated with the "drug dealing kiddy-fiddler".
