Hi Phate, I've just got one of these myself. Could you take some unedited samples? I'm trying to compare sharpness.

Depends on the camera being shot on? What camera do you have? I can provide shots from a 5D Mark 1 or a 40D.

Im tempted to scrimp and save myself and get a used 100-400 f/4, I believe £1200 new and ~£900 used.

Glass really holds its value!!!

Awesome! The ideal wedding lens. That's a decent price too. Was it off TP? Do you generally shoot weddings with your 5dmk1 Phate?

Yeah got it from TP :)

I don't have a 5Dmk1 - Just a 40D (which I'm really starting to find limiting now) - I have shots from a 5Dmk1 as I used Marks on Saturday (for nion the entire day)

I'm now craving FF even more than before....:o

Which aspect of the 40D do you find most limiting? The resolution? Is the ISO performance good enough?

ISO performance tbh at weddings, In churches often I'm going upto ISO800 and ISO1000 which is about the recoverable limit tbh. Focusing on it I'm starting to get annoyed with (Especially due to recent exposure to a 1 series)

Also I just want FF, the images seem so much more natural and just...gorgous.

Using a 1 series really changes your expectations doesn't it? I'm glad I've not tried a 1DsmkIII or the new 1DmkIV, I'd most likely be selling a kidney otherwise!

Yes mate, £900 is the going rate for these at the minute. Hopefuls are selling them at £1150 ish but if they sell the person buying is either desperate and needs one quickly or they haven't done their market research.

On google now, there's one supplier that apparently has 2 copies for £999, apparently new. If you're familiar with the shop, the second name of it is solutions. I think it'd be a competitor so I won't mention the photo part of the name :)

Sure does, on Saturday I got to use a 1D3 and a (and much sought after by me) 5D2 - honestly I want a 1 series now. As awesome as a 5D2 is with it's ISO capabilities and general performance the AF on it is no better (if not the same) as my 40D, which when paying that much money I am pretty much expecting an upgrade in the AF.

Makes me think wait for a 5D3? Or go balls out for a 1Ds3...hmm...lots of thinking needed. :)

What makes it more lucrative is the soon arrival of the 1Ds4 which will push prices down of a 1Ds3 lots :)
