This is my thought. I am in the market for a new job. Looking for financial middle management / sales in the City, or something thereabouts.

This is my FB profle picture -

My questions are: do prospective employers all go straight to FB for a glimpse of the potential employee? Is it bad that my FB picture (which clearly does not show my face) look bad to a prospective employer? (not my hair btw)

It is just that I have been refused interviews recently for no apparent reason. My CV fits the role, and I am happy in the fact that if I get to interview, I have a good chance of bagging the job.

I only ask this as in my last contracting position, I bagged the contract, but was then told by my boss a few weeks later that she had showed my picture to the team before I joined. I was a little perplexed to be honest.

Is having a vaguely amusing photo as your FB profile picture a hindrance, when in the job market, or indeed in general?

Thankfully there are a hell of a lot of people on facebook with the same name as me and the only email I would give out for something like a job interview wouldn't be tied to my fb account.

I don't know, it's like some employers don't think their employees should have a life outside of employment. I can't see snowboarding being a hindrance to a job application outside any unfounded assumptions they could make up. But as has been said, it'd be best to make your profile unfindable to stop prospective employers acting in such a stupid way.

My other problem is that I am the only person in the world with my full name. Not a boast or anything (as it is quite annoying) but it is true.

Maybe I should just lock my account down totally.

maybe but an prospective employer seeing that pic will jump to conclusions
yep he is obviously an adrenaline junkie with no regards for safety and not only will he be a complete liability but he will spend more time in A+E than in the office.

also he looks like carlos valderamma and everyone knows columbians are lazy like all south americans.

i doubt they even look tbh...

This is what I mean. What would you possibly conclude?

this isn't my thoughts before you ask but most interviewers are likely to be of a different generation , snowboard and long hair = layabout

like it or not that's the way many would see it

How would they even know its you?

I suspect you've been rejected for interview because there is something about you which doesnt fit what they want, not because you have pictures of you snowboarding on Facebook.
