EDIT: mighty confusing description, mind, seems to fluctuate between 3810 variant and 8371...but product code is LX.TTK0Z.001

cant get fingerprint reader to work after w7 install,
any help

I've not actually even attempted to use it, someone else in here might be able to help though.

Can anyone email me the place that is selling the 3810 and the 8371??

For anyone looking for this, just type 'Acer 8371' into google, and click 'shopping', and then the first link. It's actually cheaper then £350 from the first website listed although most people on here have been ordering from the second on the list.

The driver is on the acer website, although the download it painfully slow. Also after i installed it the fingerprint reader shows in device manager but i cant find any software to use with it since the acer software didnt install successfully.

As above really. The driver off the Acer webby will do the trick though it will be slow to download :(

When I installed it, the package did install the software too and it worked as far as I know. At least it would prompt me to enrol a finger print and would always get in the way of the normal windows login screen. I ended up removing the software but leaving the driver installed just so device manager was nice and tidy :)

Acer TravelMate Timeline 8371-944G32 Is this the one with the Ati4330 graphics? Its just none of the sites listed seem to mention any graphics card aside from the standard integrated Intel rubbish!

Potential stupid question but I'm guessing that either the 8371 or the 3810 CPU's are better than a 1.6 Atom? I see that the 4330 GPU is rated similar to the Ion that I already have in my HP Mini 311 but I was wondering if the CPU upgrade would give me better performance.

the 1.6 atoms are mostly single core, this is a dual core 1.4Ghz so it'll be a lot more smooth in windows and it may help in games too.

There are variants which do not have the ATi discrete card, with pretty much the same designation (the 944G32 bit)....look for the product code LX.TTK0Z.001

Yup - Core2Duo will be notably more powerful in pretty much every area :)

Cheers mate, contemplating selling my HP Mini 311 and buying one of these instead, the 4330 GPU seems to be similar to the Ion but I was hoping the Dual Core 1.4ghz would maybe provide me some gaming benefit!

before you go making the jump i take it you need a laptop thats around 12-14" or something that is really portable? as i would suggest maybe looking at the bigger 15" ranges if you want to be doing gaming a lot more.

It does need to be portable yeah, tbh my HP Mini 311 is perfect aside from the CPU obviously the Atom tends to be a bottleneck although I have been amazed by the gaming performance that I've been getting out of it, I may just spend £30 and bump the RAM on this up to 3GB and see what difference that makes first,
