As per title. I'm assuming that both of them can have their SIM's replaced? If so, which company to go with? I'm just after 500mb of internet access a month. A friend of mine has the Samsung on PAYGO with Vodafone and pays 5quid for internet a month. Something like that would be fine for me, I'll hardly ever top up my credit as I'll hardly ever call anyone.

I'm totally alien to phones, my cruddy 5 year old phone went in the wash a couple of months ago. I've had a quick go on the Samsung, seems fine for my needs (web browsing/emails/WLM/the odd phonecall). Just thinking of the Orange phone since it's using the Android OS (which I've never seen before).

So OcUK, which phone to go for? :)

Any other phones to consider are more than welcome. Buying on Monday morning :)

Orange Android San Francisco is a awesome divice for the price i would defo remommend it just read any reviews for it they all love it plus Orange a simular deal with the data for £5 a month and if you go for the dolphin package you will get 300 free txts and 100mb of free data just for topping up by £10

I'd take the android, no questions asked:
Better screen, OLED vs LCD
Much higher resolution: 800x480 vs 400x240, 4x the pixels
Doubtless a superior web browser and email client.

Oh and with it being Android if you don't like a particular built-in app there'll normally be a free alternative on the marketplace. No so much the Samsung

I've been looking at Giff Gaff for use as a Sim on the San Francisco phone.

Seems pretty good, £10 top up for 150mins / unlimited texts & unlimited internet.

Uses the O2 network so good coverage, I'm trying to see what the catch is really. :o

Currently everyone on GiffGaff gets free internet, and that is up to 100mb per day.
After December first this offer finishes, and you'll then either pay for a goodybag that gives unlimited data, or pay daily for data use.

As for how unlimited their data use is...
Is unlimited really unlimited?
The answer is yes, we are unlimited for personal mobile use - but not for commercial and automated use. Mobile Internet allowances exclude PC use and tethering.

I have the san fran and i bought my wife the monte earlier in the year. The monte is closer to a normal phone with touch screen and a world apart from the san fran. Browsing on the monte is hard going even with opera mini. However the monty has the most rediculously long battery life for a modern ts phone. Wife charges it once per week and she uses it loads, mainly for talking. My san fran lasts a day if lucky.

I'm currently on giffgaff and there is no catch to it since it's true unlimited no silly 1gb a month limit.

How much will the "goodie bag" for unlimited internet cost? What's their coverage like anyway, I don't want to have to stand on the top of a large building to get signal :D

Any idea how much internet will cost with them after December hits?

Same price as the goodybags that you can buy now. Take a look on their website and see which one would suit your needs best.

Only thing I can add extra is info from their Facebook feed. From 15th Nov to end of December the £10 goodybag will have 250 minutes instead of the usual 150 minutes.

You'd need a unlock code, costs a massive 99p or free :)

Cool:cool:

What about rooting it? I know little about Androids, Is there much benefit to rooting this particular phone? All I'll be using it for is web browsing/IM/music/taking notes.

Tbh the Essential Android Apps thread could do with sorting. A new thread should be made with a list of apps and their uses, instead of having to see each person's fav apps.

*edit* I'd like some form of app to record my results for when I'm working out (something like a spreadsheet or an alternative), any suggestions on what to get? :)

Oh dear, I just saw the HTC Wildfire for sale, what to do, what to do!

Worth spending 50quid extra for a Wildfire over the San Francisco?

I know I'll enjoy the better camera that's for sure..

*edit* Getting the SF for defo. Catching the bus in to town at 3:26.
