Morning all,

silly question time ... out of the two motherboards, which is the better one?

Asus P5Q Deluxe Intel P45 (Socket 775) DDR2
Asus P5Q PRO Turbo iP45 (Socket 775) DDR2

I currently have an Asus P5QL/EPU which has a dodgy pin in the CPU socket (I caught it with a bit of tissue while cleaning the board (I know, I've learnt my lesson)) and want to replace it with one of the above.

I can't afford to upgrade to the latest tech so I have to stick with what's available now.

Thanks.

The Deluxe for the reason stated above plus it has slightly better memory tables. Apart from that there is very little difference. The bios are almost identical. In fact i am using a modded "M Bios" on my Turbo which uses, amongst other things, the better memory tables from the Deluxe.

Thanks guys, appreciate your comments, I'll go for the Deluxe version, lets hope I can get that HyperX 8500 recognized correctly.

Whats the issue with your current board? Instability or anything?

Chances are if its serious it wouldnt work at all :)

The only issues with the board is a bent pin in the CPU socket (straightened) and not fully supporting my ram, other than that, no issues at all. Stability's fine after 15 hours of prime95, temps are ok at 38, 36, 41, 40 idle and 59, 54, 55, 57 high with the Freezer Pro 7 rev2 and cpu @ 3.2GHz.

The biggest niggle I've got is with the ram, its Kingston HyperX PC-8500 DDR2 1066 KHX8500AD2K2/4G CL7 ( 7-7-7-20 ) @2.2V advertised (not to be confused with the KHX8500D2K2/4G CL5 ( 5-5-5-15 ) @2.0v).

According to this -> http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX8500AD2K2_4G.pdf states that the ram I have is rated at 6-6-6-18 at +1.8V and 7-7-7-20 at +1.85 to +2.0V, so I've manually set this in the bios to 7-7-7-20 @2.0v, again, this is how its advertised.

CPU-Z is still showing the ram on the SPD tab as PC2-6400 (400MHz) and JEDEC #3 400 MHz 5-5-5-18 @1.8v, on the memory tab its showing as 7-7-7-20, then again, CPU-Z could be reporting it wrong.

CPU-z does'nt report PC2-8500 correctly. It shows mine as PC2-6400 as well. It's nothing to get worried about as your board will be running it fine providing you have it set up correctly.

Thanks for that lads, I'll keep what I have then and save hard for a new(er) spec next year.

Ive just ordered the p5q deluxe .. mainly due to the improved cooling and 16 phaze power

this is after a torturous 4 years of a p5n32-e sli .... with a q6600 is like trying to drive with square wheels.

maybe this will finaly give me a happy stable system.

but yea defo go for the deluxe .. price isnt much different and the added cooling and power is quite handy.

CPU-z works fine on my p5q deluxe. Shows RAM at 533MHz. Max Bandwidth reported as PC2-8900 (555MHz). Voltage 1.8V.

As most PC2-8500 is overclocked PC2-6400 maybe that is what CPU-z is picking up?
