Has anybody here got experience of exhaust bungs/baffles on an after-market exhaust system?

I haven't actually gotten around to fitting my exhaust yet, but going by the comments I've read about exhausts from this manufacture they are known to be hilariously loud, and I've got a Brands Hatch track day and a 105Db noise test coming up.

I'm only going to have a week between fitting the exhaust and the track day, so if it's too loud I'm screwed. Been thinking about buying some bungs off of ebay "just in case", but I won't bother if they're rubbish

The system is a standard turbo y-pipe into a 2.5" decat into 2.5" pipe-work into pretty big silencers with 5" (Yes, 5"!) twin exits. So, I'm not thinking it's going to be very quiet!

Do you reckon I'm best off leaving the standard system on until after my track day? Makes the most sense, but the standard exhaust note is so dull and life-less I'm thinking it might ruin the day :(.

Acutally, if anyone is handy with Japanese, here's what I believe to be my system (or what's very close).

It mentions 88db and 92db on page, which in that case would be more than perfect!

Thoughts?

And it'll be fine!
:D

Surely it should be okay?. turbos kill quite a lot of the sound anyway and 105db is hellish loud, as in litre bike with a full racepipe loud...
:)

Kakimoto aren't overly loud, when I started reading your post I thought you had got a Nur-Spec or something.

Why are you worrying about an exhaust note worrying your track day though? Once you get out on the track you won't even care what your exhaust sounds like..

If its brand new then it won't be that loud anyway they take ~1,000 miles before they do what they do best. Apparently.

err what????

The thing I remember most about Brands last year was the rather glorious sound my 16v 205 GTI made when kept above 4000RPM :).

I don't think I'd enjoy the day as much in a quiet car.

Kakimoto aren't even loud.

Really? Going by some comments I've read from Skyline boys they are supposed to be pretty loud?

Not found much information about them being used on cars with my engine though. I did find one guy who claimed he used to get kicked off of track days with a Kakimoto fitted to his soarer, but I don't know which model exhaust he had (They seem to do 3 different types, mine apparently being the quietest)

Sounding very promising. I think I might risk it without the bungs going by this thread.

Here's my bad boy :cool::

I had a Blitz system on one of my Imprezas, it came with a proper bung for it which worked well. With the bung in it was loud, with it out it was "ear splittingly annoy the neighbours by vibrating things in their kitchen" loud. :)

I sold the system after a month IIRC, it didn't make it any faster (I didn't have it mapped at that point) and was just too loud tbh.

What car is that going on?

Kakimoto make quality exhausts, just don't think many cars could pull of dual exits that big without looking stupid.
