Parcel theft!

Okay we have either have a lot of people who have chosen not to read the thread or we have a lot of dense folk on OcUK.

I'll put this in big letters so everyone can read it.

The OP ordered goods and they were sent to his old address.

Either because he provided the incorrect address, or the company he purchased from still had his old address on file.

The people who received it don't want to give it back so the company has given the OP a replacement.

The only people who are out of pocket are the company who sent the goods, and it is up to them how they pursue it.
The delivery courier has done NOTHING wrong.

The OP should not be pursuing this matter, it is not up to him to play vigilante.
It's not going to go to court because it's got bog all to do with the OP!

His issue is resolved.

You sound like the kind of person that would walk by someone stealing something in the supermarket because "it's not my problem". Fair enough that's a choice you make. But where do you draw the line? These people have stolen goods. Why can't the OP report them? That's his choice.

Issue is resolved. Was concerning a computer mouse..... :o

Police asked me what I wanted to do:

A) Go straight there and arrest the person.

B) EITHER

1) Request the item back

2) If they cannot provide / do not have the item, they can pay me the equivalent money

3) Arrest them if they refuse either of the above.

I chose to hold off arresting them and try to recover the items, minus packaging or the equivalent money.

Police have visited and have now returned the item back to me.... had clearly been used (battery was installed). Apparently they confessed but lying in the process as the mother claimed it was all her doing (presumably to save her sons hide) and that it was addressed to "the occupier" (which is nonsense as I have the dispatch email which clearly states my name). So all in all, they all knew what had happened, they're all lying so-and-so's and I'm now a little annoyed I didn't just get someone arrested as they've acted like complete 'tards. Most annoying would be the disgraceful man who told me to go away and he didn't give a... this morning, when he obviously knew that they had stolen it. It's not like they need it, it's a £600k (at least now) house and they've got 3 cars on the drive.

The mother now has the incident on her record and i'm off to ask the company if they want their mouse back. (Previous conversation advised me to try to recover it as they would simply write it off otherwise).

Very pleased with the police response but kicking myself as feel they got off very lightly considering they've consistently lied over the course of the whole thing.

Lopez - you sure it's not you? lol

FYI - Police confirmed it was THEFT.

If it was signed for then it clearly is the courier's fault as they should be checking ID for registered mail.

So, a company accidentally delivers a parcel to my old address... only they are not in so the house next-door signs for it.

It was left at neighbours then picked up by the new occupants of the old house.

Nice one OP. Resolved. And you are doing the right thing by letting the company you purchased from know. Tell them it has been used, and exactly what state the item was in. Tell them it was resolved by the police as well. They may well tell you to keep it!

That's even worse then if somebody at a different address signs for registered mail.

Yeah but at my parents place, we get stuff signed for by neighbours all the time. Some people don't mind, others do. Mind you we normally leave a note advising to check with neighbours at X/Y if no one is around.

Depends on how your neighbours are I suppose. At my new address I wouldn't be happy getting neighbours signing for things because I don't know any of them really.

I generally get stuff sent to my work address, open 24/7 and makes it so much easier!

Glad you got it resolved OP. Can't believe someone can be that well off (600K house) can be dumb enough to try to steal your delivery, especially when you call them up on it.

Glad you got a good result in the end! Good to know the fuzz took it seriously, too.

So now you have two items (original and replacement) - I take it you are going to return the excess one to the company you bought it from?

Did you tell the police the company had sent you a replacement?

I once had paypal give an eBay buyer my old address, even though I'd deleted it from the system. I gave up with it when half the people I spoke to at paypal told me there was no such address on my account.

POSTING IT IN MASSIVE SIZE LETTERS AND YOU'RE STILL WRONG

:D :p

Sorry to bump an old thread, but something similar has happened to me. A courier came last Tuesday when I was at work. Instead o leaving a card, he took a signature from someone else in the building (apartment building) and left it with them. I've not seen hide nor hair of the parcel so assume it's been nicked, either by the person who signed for it, or someone else in/around the building.

The courier say they've delivered it to the correct address (well the right building) so they're not interested. The seller wasn't going to do anything about it either until I spoke to the 'manager'. Now I have to wait while they file a claim with the courier.

It's so frustrating, it was quite a valuable item.
