Having an issue with asus radeon 6870.
When i try to put it in machine with Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard, the machine boots into windows but there is no display from the moment it is turned on. The fan on the graphics card goes full pelt though.
I have upgraded to the latest bios available on the Asus website - 1406 - but it hasn't made any difference.

The card runs fine on the Asus P5W-DH motherboard but due to some dodgy memory slots and poor overclocking ability on the e8400 when using this board, i would prefer not to have to use it.
Still feel that i sould have a bit more life out of the e8400 so dont really want to upgrade unless i'm likely to see significant improvement in games.

anyone know if any reason why the card and mobo aren't working together?

Does the motherboard work with another gpu installed, also are yo using the top the PCI-E slot.

yeah using the top PCI-E slot and yeah its been working fine (and still is) without a problem with HD4350 in it. And it's had x1900XT and GTX260 in it recently as well.

i'm wondering if it is to do with the card being PCI-Express 2.1 but then i thought it was meant to be backwards compatible.

What rating is your powersupply?
Could be that it isn't getting enough juice.

initially it was a Tagan 550W but I tried a Corsair 750W as well and still same issue.
From goggling, I've found comments from people trying to run the 5870 previously and having the same issue.
Contacted Asus but they weren't much use. couldn't confirm whether the two were compatible or not.

I had similar problems with that board when i upgraded to a 1gb 5770 card. The 1406 bios cured it though. The board seems very hit and miss and i'm currently looking for a decent low price alternative.
