HTC Desire HD (Ace)

Mine easily lasts a day now, usually have 40%+ at bed time after unplugging at 8am. Have made two days of use.

Average probably 20 minutes of calls, 10 texts, 30 minutes of web browsing, 30 minutes of some game or another every day. Wifi and internet are off during work hours because I'm sat in front of a PC anyway. Rest of the time mail and calendar is on push, Facebook is every 4 hours.

Ah ok, that sounds fairly good then. You probably use it a bit more than me too.

Backup battery, car charger adapter and a dock for the bedside for it and that should be fine then definately :)

The battery will be shocking to start with if my experience is typical. Now however it's actually quite impressive. Manual sync apps etc and switch off data/wifi when not in use and it will easily last a day. No problem.

Had mine a week now. T-Mob upgrade, I got the phone free on £10 / month unlimited texts and data. :-)

Very happy with the phone except for:

1) Terrible speaker quality and volume. All well and good all those saying "use headphones" but that's not much use for ring tones and text alerts is it?! Several times now I've missed calls and texts because in anything but a silent room I simply don't hear it ring. I've complained to HTC who wash their hands of it, and to T-Mob who've yet to reply.

2) Only one way to turn the screen on - power button on top of the phone and unreachable with one-handed use. Galaxy S and my trusty Hero have easily one-hand reachable "home" buttons.

3) Poor build quality. The SIM cover doesn't fit properly, there's a gap, and a ridge on the side. Camera lens is not centred on the iris, it's lop-sided. I've raised this with T-Mob and waiting on their reply. I'm aware of at least one other user with these faults.

Battery life is so far excellent. I've been using it, not intensively but quite a bit over the weekend, it's reporting 8% battery left after 47 hours off charge. That's pretty darn good IMHO.

Overall I'm pleased but I do want to get an exchange handset that's properly put together. Hopefully a custom ROM will sort the ring volume in due course, as it did for the Hero.

This is probably going to be a stupidly obvious question but does the phone have a vibrate function?

I dont have it, but I assure you it will do, yes.

Good news about the battery, as long as it lasts a day easily with moderate use I'm more than happy to get one :)

If battery life is a major concern for you then you won't be disappointed. :)

Its not really a major concern at all, but I had read that it was getting under 50% half way through the morning for some people, which must have been false or they were playing a video out loud all that time :p

Had it for a week now and very impressed going from a Nokia 5800.

Was able to make quick comparison with gf's new iphone 4 but just initial impressions here. So to start with DHD size is fine - it could not be any bigger just fitting nicely in pocket just pushing it with leather case on. Its actually thinner than the 5800 so feels better. Build quality is superior to the iphone IMO - its curved back is much nicer in the hand where the iphone digs in. GF stuck a rubber bumper thing on iphone which removes the edges but feels cheap then.

Compared a picture and youtube video over the internet and iphone has the edge here - looks sharper picture with better colours. But the speed of the DHD was much faster over wifi in this instance. The speed is amazing on DHD.

The interface feels superior on DHD with those seven customizable screens and widgets.

Reading books, pdfs and word documents is great with that big screen - very usable. Great when sent by email on the move. GPS also great with that screen. Iphone screen did feel cramped in comparison after DHD use.

Battery I can get 24 hours so daily charge up. Heavy usage provided over wifi and angry birds! I don't use the automatic sync and switched on USB debugging which was advised to reduced battery issue and lag issue (though i never got the lag issue).

All in all impressed. :D

Hopefully I will be able to pick up my reserved one from CPW tomorrow if the delivery batch arrives at the store... fingers crossed, can't wait hehe.

Where I'll be ordering mine from during the week :p

Was going to get it from e2Save but now they are charging for the phone on their £25 a month T-mobile deal, and it's cheaper from mobiles.co.uk so I guess I shall order from there tomorrow.

Then I'll be on the phone trying to get them to change my internet and hopefully free up the booster for texts. :)

For those wanting one from t-mobile, just to let you know, they're delayed until the 22nd of november due to some minor software issues. Mainly to do with it working with the network share with orange. It is coming, it'll just be a little late :)
