Imagine youve never played a lot of RPG's..

Deus Ex (kinda a rpg).
Fallout Series - all epic, all just blew my mind :p
Oblivion.

Not in any specific order, just have OCD with Alphbetical order xD
 
Have you tried KOTOR 2 with the restoration patch (forgot the exact name, but Team Gizka failed to produce, another group of people made a large mod that fixes most broken content).

My pc is down at the moment. So I am unable to play it, meant to be excellent though!
 
KOTOR and morrowind are the first RPGS I ever really played properly and I loved both. Oblivion is arguably an easier game to pick up and place though, especially on consoles (played it on the xbox 360 and it suited the pad quite well lol)

ROTH was a great game. Loved every minute of it and it truely scared the pants off me at the time. It was massive too! To be pedantic though, I wouldn't class it as an RPG. Sure, you play a role as in most games but it's more an FPS/Adventure game.

Another borderline RPG I'd suggest would be Jagged Alliance 2 (With 1.13 patch).

I'd also recommend Ultima 7 + Black Gate and Serpent Isle. To a lesser extent 4-6 as well but they're pretty dated now.

KOTOR (game that got me back into RPG genre)
Vampire Bloodlines (nice scaled start i.e. tutorial and introduces elements gradually)

Are you sure about that?, as a noob to the RPG genre I've been keeping an eye on the threads in here and TWII seems to be a bad buy considering the main island is multiplayer only.

Bear in mind the OP asked for an RPG, not an (M)MORPG. :)

two worlds isnt an mmorpg, its still a good game, the game world is still bigger than games like risen, even without the big island.

still plenty to do, id say give it ago.
 
Sure it might not be massively multiplayer, that's why i bracketed the first M, just in case.
My point was that a nice chunk of the game is dedicated to online play, the OP has not specified online, only RPG. :)

So, semiskimmed, Are you looking for a single player experience or an online affair?
(I know I have an agenda myself, have been itching to get into a decent SP RPG after crashing and burning hard with EvE... never trust anyone in that damn game.)
 
for good single player, I can only recommend mostly older games.

not really a fan of newer rpgs.. mind you, they might be easier to get into because of their shiny graphics and simplicity.

Best RPG ever.

Also for a pick up and play turn based RPG the new "Costume Quest" from double fine is a good starting place.
