470 sli or 6870 CF

This makes me laugh... have you ever used or owned a pair of GTX470 SLI? I can put my hand on my heart and say I've used both options and can tell you for a fact that GTX470 SLI is not that noisey and definitely gives up the performance to make it worth the heat and power use.

You have used 6870 Xfire? or are you referring to 5870 Xfire or another setup?

As for the op I suggest buying a single GTX470 or 6870 - whichever is cheaper unless you prefer one make or the other - and adding a second card if you find you feel the need for it - which I think you probably won't.

Get it?

Good

Rroff>> Cool, thanks bud :-) Interesting you think the 470 SLI is superior as you've used them. I don't doubt for a second the 470 is the faster single card, but it's odd the reviews say different to your findings when it comes to multi-card, which is why I asked. (No offence intended btw :-) )

OP: You won't be dissappointed with performance either way bud. I really wouldn't worry about it ;-) As long as your motherboard supports SLI or Crossfire, and your PSU is powerful enough for either solution, your cool :-)

The 470 is definately the faster SINGLE card though :-)

As to which is superior, not a simple answer. I consider that ATI still aren't as good as nVidia when it comes to multi GPU support and more likely of the 2 to be problematic i.e. recent problems with crossfire in BC2, Black Ops, GTA4 and so on.

Unfortunatly I don't have the ability to sit down and compare the different setups like for like in a controlled environment (without spending my own money) and create graphs like these which I feel shows the real story. Most of my exposure to the different setups comes from building or troubleshooting PCs for people, which I often get asked to do being fairly knowledgeable on the subject.

I don't know how you dare to claim to have an objective point of view, have you purposefully ignored this post?
