Supplements the debate/discussion thread

Hi there, I have a seriously random question, well kinda, basically I was doing some reading other day about supplements, and you know when you kinda read like 10 websites and then loads of different forums and your sort of sat there reading, well basically I saw loads of people on different forums talking about this new supplement, I dont know quite how knew it is, but I'd never heard of it before and I've been taking supplements for past 12 months or so...whats really bugging me is they were all talking about this new supplement like it was this amazing thing, and I cant remember the name of it, they said its better then nitric oxide and better then creatine and better then everything, and I think they're were saying for strength and you really feel sommat from it in the gym, but I been searching last night and tonight and I cant find the articles and the discusions that I read and its bugging me coz I want to know the name of the supplement.

To help you out, here's the supplements that I've tried upto this point, and its none of these:

Protein shake
glutimane
hmb
creatine
amino acids
multi-vitamins
nitric oxide/nox

If you said the name to me, I'd know it, if ya get me, can someone just write some more supplements that I havent already mentioned, its really popular now apparently so am sure you'll have all heard it and I bet most of you who do take supplements are already taking it.

Thanks in advance.

D-Aspartic Acid (DAA)?

Yeah jack3d thats it, thanks for that, was really bugging me lol.

Am gona do some research on this jack3d now online, but what do you guys think of it? good or rubbish?

EDIT: I just been reading this article here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Jack3d-Dangerous-and-Addictive-Supplement
It made me worried when reading that article coz it says you can have a stroke from taking, and yeah thats if you take the wrong amount it says, but it doesnt seem like a natural supplement to me...from what I've read though this supplement seems equivalent to nos, nitric oxide, is that what this supplement is, just like one of the ones I've taken before where it sort of makes you feel awake and alert before you hit the gym? Coz if so what is so different about this supplement compared to say "MET-RX Amped" or others?

Thanks in advance.

Its just a slightly different blend of all the other preworkout stims and pump products.
Its not going to work miracles you may feel your able to get out more reps or lift a slightly heavier weight and you may also feel more pumped than usual.
I say may because not everyone gets the desired effects from these products.

Would you consider jack3d to not be a natural supplement, and do you think its safe?

Sorry, am full of questions today lol, I have one more, I was watching ronnie coleman DVD, not sure which one, it was the one where he didnt win that year at the competition, and anyways, I seen him mix an unflavoured shake with some chocolate powder stuff, and I'm on asda website now and I've bought an unflavoured protein shake from elsewhere, and am looking for this chocolate stuff on asda website but I cant find it? Do you know the name of it please?

EDIT: and do any of you buy unflavoured, I only got unflavoured because its cheaper, but now I need something to mix in it so I can drink it, what do you put in yours? Also, I dont have a blender, so thats why I was after the chocolate powder stuff I saw ronnie using.

EDIT 2: from reading that article I linked above, it says you can have a stroke by taking too much of that jack3d and now I'm thinking back to about a year ago when my mate bought some nox, not sure which it was, and we took 2 scoops before going to gym everyday and it made us feel really good, we really liked it, and then the next thing ya know we decided to take 4 scoops, and then 6, and then 8, and then we were upto 12 scoops, and by this point it was giving us really bad jitters and really didnt feel right and couldnt sleep so then after 3 months we stopped taking it and never taken it again, so do you reckon that was like dangerous, could we have had strokes back then?

Thanks in advance.

Is Jack3d any good?

My pre-workout is a lucozade glucose tablet, a banana, a coffee at work, by this time i'm psychologically and physically pumped, shaking and raring to pump some iron!!

If i can get the same from just taking a scoop or whatever of Jack3d, that'd be nice

Sounds cliche, but listening to high pump music in my car on the way to the gym really helps (currently it's swedish house mafia!)

Hmmm, well, now that I've found this nesquik that ronnie uses, am not too sure I want to use it, because look at this:

nesquik2.jpg

nesquik1.jpg

What do you guys think about me having two shakes a day mixed with 15 grams of nesquik, I'm currently 18.5 stone, I'm cutting at the moment for 12 weeks, I've been cutting for 2 weeks so far and lost over one stone and look much better for it and then am thinking of bulking again after 12 weeks for 9 months of the year, and then rinse repeating this every year. But am concerned about this nesquik powder coz its got sugar and bad carbs in, but the rest of my diet is perfect...this is what I eat every single day now so you can see how clean I eat:

==================================================
Meal 1 -Breakfast - 8am:
1xBanana / 50g complex carbs
50g Oats with semi skimmed milk / 50g of carbs
8 egg whites + tin of heinz beans / 52g of protein 50g carbs

Meal 2 - 11am:
1xBanana 50g complex carbs
Tin of sardines + tin of tuna + two tomatoes / 50g protein
50g Oats with semi skimmed milk / 50g of carbs

Meal 3 - 2pm:
1xBanana 50g complex carbs
Tin of sardines + tin of tuna + two tomatoes / 50g protein
50g Oats with semi skimmed milk / 50g of carbs

Meal 4 - 5pm:
1xBanana 50g complex carbs
Tin of sardines + tin of tuna + two tomatoes / 50g protein
50g Oats with semi skimmed milk / 50g of carbs

Meal 5 - 8pm:
1xBanana 50g complex carbs
Tin of sardines + tin of tuna + two tomatoes / 50g protein
50g Oats with semi skimmed milk / 50g of carbs
==================================================

Meal five or four is usually interchangeable with:
1xBanana 50g complex carbs
2xSmoked Hadock + broccoli+spinich+sweet potatoes /60g protein
50g Oats with semi skimmed milk / 50g of carbs

==================================================

So I was thinking after my 12 week cutting phase is over, I'd eat everything the same as I do above, but change 2 of the meals per day for two protein shakes, and with the protein shakes I'll add amino acids, glutamate, creatine etc, but that nesquik powder has bad carbs and bad sugar, and I want to clean bulk, I dont want to gain fat, I've spent years losing over 6 stone of fat, and I dont want to get fan ever again, I want to get my body fat really low so I look cut.

So am just concerned if those 2 scoops of nesquik will hinder my progress and if I can possibily for these 2 scoops into my diet.

I do 2 hours cardio each day now and 15 mins on abs, and 60 mins weights, but after my 12 weeks cutting is over I'm planning on doing no cardio and just doing 60 mins weights everyday for 9 months so I can get big.

Thanks in advance, I know theres allot to read but I'd appreciate it if you could take the time to read it and see my situation so you can best advise me, like I said earlier, I dont have a blender so I dont know what else to do, I need powder to add to my unflavoured protein shake, it cost me £35 for 5kg so its like 3x cheaper then I've ever nought before.

Cheers again:confused::eek::(:rolleyes:

I can't read the whole thread, so apologies if this has been posted before, but;

How many people here would pay a fee (in the 250GBP region), for a service that provided a blood test and a physical and subsequent tailored supplements plan to fit your training regime?

What would the upper limit be (bearing in mind that you guys might spend a hundred quid a month or more on supplements)? Would there be interest in a programme that provided everything you needed for a six month high intensity training schedule?

Building on that, what about a 'safe' steroid based program that mitigated the risks to provide a higher than natural improvement in physique, provided that you put the work in?

I'm not suggesting that these services exits (although they may). The question is more, in an era of nose-jobs and botox, would there be a significant interest in professionally managed drug/supplement programs that improved people through their own effort (training)?

I can see the need for a service like that if I was professional athlete and my chosen sport was 100% my career.

But as a hobby I'm happy spending pretty much the minimum and experimenting with what sups and reps range .etc work best for me.

Could have got 5kg flavoured whey at myprotein for £40+ delivery when pricematching www.bodybuildingwarehouse.co.uk

As for nesquik, do you really need the nesquik to mask the taste? If so, do you really need 15g?

Also it looks like you're eating a lot of food, 5 bananas a day too :eek:? You could probably eat a fair bit less although 2 hours of cardio a day is a lot.

Also, you dont have a late night meal? I'd cut the carbs from that (unless you train at night?) and eat cottage cheese or quark before bed.

edit: 3 tins of tuna a day? You're eating an insane amount tbh count the calories of all that, and try get some variation.

Edit: Also after getting chocolate mint and strawberry cream whey from MP, I've decided chocolate mint is too minty and strawberry cream tastes really nice.

People splash 3-4K on new teeth - similar money on breasts (for themselves), and maybe a good amount of cash on amateur sport. Maybe this is the next trickle down - there are enough steroid users out there, so why not give them a safe product that works?

I tend to get a bit of neusea with certain supplement, I think it was (that which cannot be named) that I really didnt get on with... but rather than wait until tomorrow I tried Jack3d for the first time today.

I only had 3/4 of a scoop as I had a very important meeting to attend this evening so I didnt want to chance having that sickie feeling.

My workout was really intense.... I trained my back and felt really focused and strong when doing my reps. The best bit was my cardio.... I think it kicked in more at this point because I ran so hard, I was very pleased with the intensity I had today.

Going to try 1 whole scoop tomorrow when I work my shoulder/traps... and will report back.

On the whole I felt no ill effects, and I'm pretty pleased.

On another note, I bought some BioMax protein whey "light" today ... I have decided to try to reduce my milk intake as I really want to get my calories to around 1800 a day. So this is mixed with water and it doesn't taste too bad....

Im about to make a few more cuts to my diet and this will hopefully aid with the reductions I want to achieve. I'm looking to get my body fat levels down to 11 percent by Christmas.

Ultimately I want to achieve 9-10 percent body fat and try to retain it with a balance low GI diet and one or two cheat meals a week.. .. that would do nicely!!!

I think there probaly would be a market for it as a lot of people like to 'buy into things' as a quick fix. Slendertone belts for example. But weather it's big enough or profitable enough is another question.

I think if you were considering edging over to the dark side having a pre-mapped cycle could be handy but we can't discuss that here.

I for one like to do my own homework as do many others and to understand what effects the substances that we're putting into our body will have and also exactly what we're putting in. A lot of people like to learn this sort of stuff so on the other hand you might find people reluctant to part with cash for knowledge when it's readily available for free on the internet.

Unless you had some celebrity endorsements or good testamonials I don't think it'd be hugely succesful. Be likely selling to the same sort of people that think whey powder itself gives you gains and that doing 10,000 crunches will give you visible rippling abs.
