Sikhs allowed to wear ceremonial dagger to school

It isn't none. So you lose your bet. How will you transfer the trillion pounds to me?

What isn't none? The correlation? Show me, plz.

Actually, I'm not sure why I said correlation. I could correlate roast potatoes and menstruation if I tried hard enough. Correlation is meaningless. Any causation?

You can't change the terms of a bet after you've lost. Where's my trillion pounds? I have stuff to buy!

There have been a few cases in which Sikhs have used a kirpan to stab or slash someone, which is causation as they couldn't have done it if they weren't carrying one.

Very few, but not none.

sgian dubh is legal to wear (except for zero tolerance places like aeroplanes and some pubs), you can wear it as long as you are also wearing the rest of the national dress - kilt etc.

Schools shouldnt let religion into schools. If those that are religious dont like it well f off and go to a country that lets u do that. I mean come on ppl a dagger. What next a ak47 religious trinket... A holy nade i.e worms game weapon being allowed just cos the word holy is in it?

Got to love how we cant let our kids wear crucifixes in schools because it might offend muslims yet muslim CHILDREN are allowed to bring in 6 inch long daggers.

How much is a green card plz.

You do know this has been going on for a while, yeah? So to ask the question "Whatever next" is to be rather late to the punch.

My appologies for just finding out about it now and not when it happend, how dare I.

Would ''That is absolutely ridiculous'' suffice?

And from memory the "ceremonial" dagger in question can be blunt, sealed into it's sheaf or miniature...and many Sikhs do have one of those options, I suspect given the advice any taking one to school will have the sealed option.

It's a relatively non story.

Exactly, it is like the sgian-dubh that us scotsman traditionally wear with our kilts, they are mostly completely blunt and these days almost all of them are completely sealed.

You are better off using a pen or pencil.

Dude seriously? The kirpan has NOTHING to do with Islam. It's a totally different religion!

How much is a green card plz.

UK Citizens are not eligable for the green card lottery and if you think the USA is some sort of religion free utopia you've got a bit shock

They're not Muslim children, it's plastered all over the thread that it's Sikhs who can legally carry a Kirpan - I'm really not sure how you can get the two confused. Unless the argument is that they're not religions native to the UK but if it comes to it nor is Christianity although it does have greater numbers in the UK.

And from what I remember of the various stories about crucifixes it has almost always been because there is a no jewellery policy rather than an argument that it will offend people.

How much is a green card plz.

About $500,000 to invest in distressed areas in America should get you an EB-5 visa, better start saving now.

The bet wasn't even made with you in the first place! ;)

Utterly spurious logic, unless you're going to also submit that the presence of kitchen knives causes stabbings at home. The presence of a weapon may present opportunity for crime, but you'd have to go a long way to prove it caused it.

To all those calling for 'one rule for everyone', we already have one, it is the section in the human rights act that refers to article 9 of the EU charter of human rights, which states:

(1) Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief, in worship, teaching, practice and observance.

(2) Freedom to manifest one's religion or beliefs shall be subject only to such limitations as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society in the interests of public safety, for the protection of public order, health or morals, or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others.

Which basically means that until you can present solid evidence of kirpans in schools being used for naferious purposes, you have no grounds to ban it.

Given the nature of the Kirpan within the sikh religion, it is quite correct that neither the government, nor local state service providers, can ban it at a whim. Trying to make comparisons with crucifixes and the like only shows fundamental misunderstandings of all the religions involved in the comparison.

sikh's are pretty harmless they usually only kill each other, their parents / children / family, as long as the law is not extended to allow other more bomb happy religions to to carry their weapon of choice....

Bomb happy religions... You mean like Christians? I recall George Bush nailing the **** out of Iraq because 'God told him to'.
