***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

Man I'm starting to feel like a proper kid. ONLY 8 days (Poss even 7!) days to go! I'm a 24yr old man and the anticipation of this game dropping onto my doormat has reduced me to ADHD like behaviour just thinking/talking about it :p:D

I'm 27 and I know the feeling, I'm thinking theres going to be some sick days to be had next week :D

if other people want 'the best', I'd recommend if you have the extra money, then the Belt Driven Fanatec GT3RS V2 Clubsport edition wheel is that next step up, the Clubsport pedals are insanely superb (All alloy, adjustable, load cell brake pedal with ABS vibration, I have them on my own setup),

Interesting. I've already splurged on the G27 so it's too late, but I like the sound of the load-cell brake pedal. It always seems that wheel designers have never actually used a car's brake pedal before- it's not just a lever on a spring, it's a pressure based thing. Does the G27 have a normal (rubbish) lever on a spring, or something more realistic?

That simracing video was awesome. I have no idea what it was about and all I heard was "blah blah blah", but it was nevertheless awesome..... :)

I've read bad thing of the customer support with Fanatec wheels though. I think you have to purchase from them direct right? They take weeks to ship despite suggesting on the site that they are "ready for despatch" and often do not respond to emails at all. I was reading the forums and one guys turned up clearly previously used which is a shame as the wheels look good. They also don't have many in stock for Europe and seem to charge twice the price in Europe compared to US.

As for G27 vs G25. I thought that the G25 came with a sequential shifter and that the G27 doesn't? i.e. G27 can only use 6 speed H shaped gears like everyday car, where as the G25 could be used as a sequential in line shifter like touring/rally cars.

Fanatec are a 'smallish' German engineering company, so their CS is there, it's just slow, and there is a communication delay, which does seem at odds with the slickness of companies such as Logitech.

I too read the forums a lot before spending nearly £400 on a 911 Turbo S with Clubsport Pedals. It comes with 2 years warranty, and I knew if things went wrong that it'd be sorted, but I may be without the wheel for 2-3 weeks. In all cases I've read, they've either refunded or sorted the issues, albeit in a delayed manner.

However, from being an owner, I can only say that the product far outweighs any potential CS slowness that I may encounter.. They are typical over engineered german product.. I guess you can't have everything, but the modularity and upgradeability throughout their range with the base configurability of all the wheels is quite compelling.. They've been catering to the sim crowd with great success, and now are really driving for the consoles.

It's a personal choice at the end of the day, but I really can't recommend the product enough, and if you take the customer service as being slow, you can't go far wrong.. They certainly don't seem to act as some fly-by night mass producer, they trade on their quality and reputation..

Play online ? It looks to have the best MP driving system ive seen, car clubs, track days, track sharing, Rally modes, etc etc. Looks a very good feature set TBH, well to come from nothing to this is a big step i just hope it works :)
The AI in the S Class in GT5P was pretty hard and was decent challenge, i expect we wont see the best part of the AI till later levels.

Just a note i saw about the G27/25 seems like the G27 isnt fully supported yet in GT5, something to do with the firmware, not sure what is and isnt working but i heard that only the G25 and of course the DFGT are fully supported.

While it does sem to have some good online features, I'm also a little sceptical if they can pull it off.

I have a bad feeling that the game will see many patches in its first few months.

Online in GT5P was.... awful. I hope they've learned a LOT of lessons.

ok, the latest controversy now is that people are saying based on the leaked videos the in game damage has been toned right down compared to what we was lead to believe we was getting, practically non existent, show floor demonstrations, PR videos etc have been showing quite impressive damage modelling and sparks etc but that doesn't look like that will be in the final game atm.

Dam this game is like a roller coaster.

This may or may not be an issue for you, just giving you a heads up, I guess we'll know for sure in 7 days time.

Edit -

Check out the roll from 4min>

Personally it's not a big issue for me as I use bumper or hood view but still a bit of a bummer all the same.

I was a little suspicious why in all the vids i've seen lately, none seem to show anything like the damage model shown with the WRC Impreza.

Lets hope the patching system is better than GT5P's, I remember it taking ages and many many attempts to download each update and it would constantly fail mid-update for no apparent reason.

Source ? I mean, who worth listening to actually has a G27 and a copy of GT5 ?

Logitech sales/support would suggest that the G27 is fully compatible with GT5.

That's what I was told yesterday but they would say that, wouldn't they :)

Give them a call let us know what they say.

Im not surprised at all (as per my previous point). I just didnt expect a damage model anywhere near to what we get in other driving games. Ignoring the whole license issues, its like PD dont like damage on their lovely models...

I keep allowing them these excuses (like the car list) because they are Japanese and honestly think their mentality vastly differs...

ps3ud0

Personallly I couldn't give a flying ____ about damage in the game, I'm just looking forward to a driving game I can sink my teeth in to. Forza was great, but the 100% completion was boring beccause I already had all the sodding cars by 50% completion.

Got a new set of speakers being delivered tomorrow. I sure as hell cannot get in to GT5 with some utterly pants speakers.
