New pc build

Hi, new to the forum so let me know if I've made any mistakes in thread placing etc, I have a budget of around 2k to spend on a new pc, this includes the monitor and peripherals, so I have a basic idea of what I want but have the following questions:

1. 1366 based system or 1155? I've heard that the 1155 will be limited in terms of overclocking etc and there will be a new chip to replace the 1366 which I intend to upgrade to when that comes available next year anyway.

2. I am set on an Nvidia 580 ATM as I am looking to go 3d, a few mates of mine have it and this can't go a miss lol, the question I have is will a corsair hx1000 psu be overkill? Initially I will be running 1 580 but will be adding a second card and maybe a 3rd down the line provided the motherboard I choose supports it.

3. I have been looking at a the Benq 3d monitor (benq xl2410t) but can't find any reviews based on it, it seems to have some good features and appears the best 3G monitor for the price ATM, anyone able to shed any light?

Any help will be appreciated and I will be posting a build on the next over the next month or so for everyones approval :D

Come up with the spec below, not 100% sure on the monitor, keyboard and mouse I leave to your own personal choice.
PSU Will be overkill but allows you to add another gpu if needed :)

1155 dont come out till early next year and AFAIK there wont be any new chip for the 1366 but intel is releasing Socket 2011 to replace Socket 1366 late next year.

rjc what about the psu, i think he only asked if its overkill, not sure if he actually has it

Quick replys guys, thanks. So 1366 it is then, Good specs there, but I was thinking more in terms of the ud3r gigabyte motherboard, the 950 i7 CPU and a silverstone ft02, thoughts?

Really, the question with the psu is will something like an 850 or 750 corsair hx series do for a tri sli 580 set or will it really have to be a 1000 to be safe? Budget can go to around 2.5k initially if needed lol.

Also, thinking more in terms of 2 of them ocz 60gb drives in raid 0 and maybe a few 1tb western digital Sata 3 drives.

Will post up parts before I buy guys, thanks for the feedback. Would you recommend that sabertooth board over a ud3r?

Anyone own or know anyone who owns the Benq monitor
Mentioned? :)

Checked out a few sabertooth reviews, only supports 2 gpu's (lanes 16.16.4 for pci e), the ud3r supports 3 way (16.16.8), is there a reason you suggest it?

so both of them only support two graphics cards then!! as you wouldn't want a third card running at a slower speed than the other two!!

5 year warranty.

Ceramic heatsinks.

And this months Custom PC review shows the benchmark Gaming results for this board being 37fps in Crysis while the other two(Asus P6X58D-E, UD3R) only getting 31FPS.

SATA performance is also higher.

The x8 supports the bandwidth to use a 3rd card, and the board is tri sli certified. Good point in the comparisons, the us3r quite old now in comparison to that board. I may have to re evaluate the build lol, maybe a lesser psu and only 2 580s in sli.

but you want all the cards to receive the same bandwidth (16X each) there are motherboards out there that do this, but cost dumb money as they have some special chips from nvidia that add the extra pci express lanes needed for this.

and 3 GTX580's? seriously?

+1

Also, this months CPC was quite good - esp the upgrade section, wouldn't you say?

lol Im set to shell out over the next few months as I have just finished paying for my car so I have spare monies now. I will look at moving down to 2 580's, then a lesser PSU can be involved which saves money at the end of the day I guess.

What alternate motherboards are recommended compared to the Sabertooth?

Thanks for your input guys
