What kind of careers could i have with an astrophysics degree at uni??

Im taking AS in Physics, Maths (1 and half), Economics and Design & Technology....

A2 next year, will take all the above except DT i think...

Well I suppose you could be an astrophysicist.

Although I wonder whether there would actually be any such jobs open to you unless you went to a top university... I'd have thought just a general physics course would be more sensible, widening any prospects. (although I don't know what the job situation for people with physics degrees is like either).

Researcher @ a University.
Theorist ?
Astrophysicist @ NASA, Government, Hadron Collider, some large Scientific institution?

I suggest if you are serious about a career in this subject (ie you are passionate and want it 100%) you look into career paths & research the kinds of places that would employ you very very carefully and set some goals, network with the right people and really put your heart and soul into your study.

haha... well i am aiming for a good uni... i think i could be heading for oxbridge... thing is... its all very very well being an "astrophysicist" but.. thts a little vague isnt it?

A friend I used to work with did Astrophysics at Uni, he's always worked in IT but did almost get in to BA on their pilot training scheme.

If it's heavily numbers based then you could do anything that would involve that, engineering, research, defence stuff etc.

as said lecturer or you could be a reader, but requires abit more (academic) work, you'll obviously be paid more, but the whole giving opinions, writing articles ''malarky'' id assume would get rather tedious, but I guess it depends how much you love astrophysics:D

edit: id keep economics, its abit more versatile imo

Astrophysicist?

Oh comon - it's not rocket science is it?

I'll get my coat....... :D

Yes yes, I know it's not actually rocket science before the pedants turn up ;)

Physics = anything you want

Friends of mine who also did physics are doing a variety of things - several are working in research at DSTL, a lot are working in the city in various banking/finance/trading related positions. Some are becoming teachers, others have moved into IT and development.

with that kind of degree the career opportunities will probably be vast, especially from a prestigious uni

what kind of stuff are you into?

bare in mind by the time you finish uni and have matured a bit you will have totoally different interests
