lol! Yes, that is how I read it - obviously I got that wrong, so I apologise (again) for that.

We both obviously have differing opinions on the subject (both subjects!), so lets just agree to disagree?

Well, personally, I think it's fantastic news and it's been a long time coming. It's a shame that there are so many nay-sayers out there. These are our future King and Queen and I for one am proud of our Royal family and all the pomp and circumstance that goes with it.

The tax implications will likely be minimal and the amount of tourism that this will likely generate will be a very positive thing for this country.

I wish them many happy years of marriage and I will if possible go to London to witness the occasion.

ETA - I did think the BBC's live feed of coverage was a tad OTT though!

You can't be serious? "These are our future King and Queen" by happenstance yes; but if I had a choice I would sell all their assets off at the first chance and demote them to the status of the dutch royal family.

We're in the 21st century and us subjects still hold reverence to a line of murderers, rapist and pillagers? How the eye mists over when I think about the empire and my love for the queen :)

We can't really sell their stuff.

I would like to reclaim several things from them for the state however. Namely our seabed to start with.
 
The Royal Family is an anachronism and a waste of space. The only redeeming feature is that they apparently generate a net income to the Country by way of tourism. they deserve no reverence or respect - they're just some people who are advantaged in society as the result of many years of stealing from others and claimed omnipotence.

Get rid once Lizzie kicks the bucket, give "their" assets to the government and the poor, and this Country would be a better place.

Well pleased tbh, love our royal family and love the fact we have a royal family. Traditions are important and we are a better nation for having them.
 
The royals are more of a cultural tourist attraction than anything. I really couldn't care less who's getting married to who. They're just ceremonial figureheads, (hey if they're a tourist attraction fair enough, but thats all they are now). They're still there because of tradition. It's a thing of the past. So much fuss over nothing, i imagine the whole idea of a royal family will fade with time.
 
For those that say the don't care, what's the betting that this news is being broadcast in about half the nations of the world tonight?;)

There aren't many engagements that would do that...:p
 
Don't care really. I always wanted Princess Diana to be our next Queen but Kate Middleton ? No! I don't want her to be our next queen. It make me furious that she is wearing Diana's engagement ring on her finger. What is she playing at ? Trying to be better than Diana ?
 
jeez the media just arnt going to STFU about this one are they, its going to be a story cash cow from now on, the royals should support their own existence not get hand outs from the government. This is just a political ploy to divert public attention from the shoddy spending cuts, just like thatchers government with their royal wedding
