.I have just had a look at some flats in Northfleet and noticed that the flats there were pretty cheaper e.g. 110k for 2 bedroom new flat.

However, im usually sceptical about deals like this because it could possibly be that the area is trash. Therefore im asking if anyone on this board lives in or around Northfleet to provide me with some opinions?

Reason i have chose this is that the flats are pretty cheap and trains to london seem quite reasonable. However i just wanted a quick low down on the area as my girlfriend would also be commuting to work. The flat we have seen on the website is 0.3 miles to the station.

Cheers

I live in Gravesend!

I suppose the good is the transport links. Can get to central London in about 30 minutes by train. Also, Bluewater is only a 10 minute drive away. That said, apart from pubs and the prom (which should be avoided at night anyway), there is not a whole lot to do around here. If you want a night out then either going to Bluewater or one of the other towns is a better bet.

All depends what you're looking for really.

Well me and my girlfriend are not drinkers so you wouldnt find us in any pubs! Even if we go out to eat it will probably be in Bluewater! The property we are looking at is in Northfleet high street.

As mentioned we have seen this as a good place to live and investment wise when the market rises :)

Northfleet High Street so near Northfleet Train Station. That's literally a 2 minute drive/ 10 minute walk away from Ebbsfleet International Station so you'd have a high speed rail link to either London or the continent. As I said before, the transport connections are very good but the general area is a bit depressing. Of course there's various clubs you could join but that can be done anywhere.

The proximity to Bluewater is a big plus. Have you noticed how all the plusses I've listed are about things that take you out of Gravesend?! :p

The town centre is alright and there's been some investement into the area to make it look nicer plus preserve and invest in some of the older independent businesses.

UpMyStreet's Neighbourhood Profile says the following:

"This is a profile for the central postcode in DA11 which is DA11 0RH. Neighbourhood profiles vary significantly from postcode to postcode.

Often, many of the people who live in this sort of postcode will be families and single parents living in council flats. These are known as type 52 in the ACORN classification and 0.86% of the UK's population live in this type.

In addition to Glasgow, neighbourhoods fitting this profile are found in West Dunbartonshire, Dundee, Aberdeen and Edinburgh.

This type is really only found in significant numbers in Scotland and, in particular, Glasgow.

The vast majority of people live in purpose built flats, including traditional Scottish tenements. They are small one or two bedroom properties, and will be almost exclusively rented from the council or housing associations.

The population is young and there are many school age children with young parents. The level of single parents is one of the highest in the country at 21%. With such young families, many women are fully occupied looking after their children. Unemployment levels are high, with many long-term unemployed. Those that are working are in routine factory, manual or retail occupations, and overall income levels are amongst the lowest in the country. They have to consider their budgets when shopping for food, and retailers such as Aldi and Kwik Save are where they choose to go. They also buy a lot of mail order goods from the traditional catalogue companies, so that they can spread their payments.

With the limited money they are likely to have left, they will occasionally relax by going to the pub or a nightclub for a drink, going to bingo or placing a bet. Their most popular paper is the Scottish Daily Record, followed by The Sun and News of the World.

TV is important to many and cable TV is popular. Otherwise, for many, their interest in their local football team is one of the things that matters most to them."

You know what - I skimmed it and didn't cotton onto that!

I believe the Neighbourhood Profile may be incorrect...

Unless it's a little piece of Scottish haven for homesick haggis-chuckers!

Still undecided as to whether its worth us viewing the property and area. As we would be commuting to london i would be using the Northfleet train station every morning!

If your using the Northfleet station, you'll get the slow train which stops at more places. The faster train from Gravesend station skips Northfleet. Still only a 35 to 40 minute journey to Charing Cross, plus not as much as a rush. Of course it's probably best that you go view the property and have a walk around the town just to see if you like it.

I used to live in Gravesend and commute into London before the fast train from Ebbsfleet was built. It takes 50 mins to get into Charring cross, that line into London is so congested with stops it takes forever :(

There's not a whole lot to do there but you have bluewater for entertainment/shopping needs, although commuting out of that area can be a nightmare as you're pinned in by the Thames, M25 and the coast

I currently live in Gravesend, used to work at Northfleet Technology College (was Northfleet School for Boys), it's not bad as I spend the majority of my time up in London, but it does have some really ****ty areas.. The HS1 is pretty awesome, but pricey. If your missus works in London, she can get the early bird tickets for next to nothing, but you have to catch a train pre-7am, try to avoid Northfleet High Street (which is probably Perry Street) as it's a bit dodgy, lots of dirty little miscreants that loiter around there, but on the other hand - you do have the biggest cop shop in NW Kent on your doorstep. :p

It is quite large. And, yes, Perry Street is a **** part though they have opened a tesco express there. Exciting!:p
