I'm sure I'm not the only one on here with more than a passing interest in football boots - I've gone through plenty of pairs trying to find the perfect boot! It got me thinking, what do you think is the greatest design of all time? Your reasoning can be based on anything you like - technological advancement, aesthetics, or even just who wore them. I'd be interested to see what everyone thinks. :D

Here's a few suggestions of my own:

Adidas Copa Mondial

A boot design so simple and so perfect that it has gone basically unchanged for three decades.

Adidas Predator Accelerator

Kids today are taking 20 metre run ups and trying to blast the ball into the net as hard as they can; growing up all I can remember is trying my best at lunchtime to curl that perfect free kick into the bottom corner. There's only one Beckham and these boots were (in my opinion) his classic pair.

Nike Mercurial Vapor SL

The Nike Mercurial series revolutionised boot design by creating boots lighter than had ever been made before. Brazil's Ronaldo launched the series and scored almost all of his World Cup goals in Mercurial boots, but it was Cristiano Ronaldo that become the real face of the Vapor line. This pair was the logical conclusion of all that research - a hand crafted football boot made entirely of carbon fibre that weighed just 190 grams and was worn by both Ronaldo and Didier Drogba in the 2008 Champions League final. These sold in a limited run and a pair now will set you back upwards of £400! Unbelievably, they're still not the lightest boot ever made- that would be the current Puma V1.10 SL. All that design didn't go to waste, however, as Drogba still insists on having his current Nike boots equipped with the sole plate and stud layout of the Vapor SL.

So, OcUKers, what's the best boot ever?!

Original Nike Total 90's. Henry had a pair in the early 2000's I think.

In my favoured sport I think my favourites were Gilbert Sidestep X2 Ankle boots.

Although I've always liked Puma Kings and Copa Mundials my favourite pair of boots were a pair of Kelme I got for about £10 as they were the last pair in the shop. They were worth about £80 at the time (~1998) and were the softest leather. I'll have to try and find them on google now. :D

I also have a pair of Predators from about 6 years ago that I really like.

I've never tried any of the new generation boots with the thin synthetic material.

My first were the Mercurial Vapor Vs and they are tough to get on with if your feet don't fit them "just right" - mine rubbed the top of my little toes relentlessly because they are slightly crooked (like this shape but not as extreme, obviously: /\). They did have a bit of stretch in them and now they are pretty comfy - not quite slippers but just comfortable. I do love playing in them, nice and light and the thin material gives you a superb feel of the ball. Feels like they have a reduced sweet spot for shooting but that may just be me.

Adidas World Cups and Puma Kings are the classics that will never be beaten. Especially by ugly monsters like Mercurials.

Always, always always always wanted those predators. I was the same, got some cheap astro ones and spent hours in the park just trying to curl the ball in the top corner.

I own the mundials now though :)

Yup, no contest really.

I bought a pair of the original Nike Tiempo's (Cantona factor) and they were the only ones that ever came close to the World Cups.

I had a pair of the Kelme ones mentioed up above and I agree they were the softest leather ever! the touch was great with them but they offered little to none protection wise.

This was of course back in the days when if you're boots weren't black you got the **** kicked out of you :D

Nothing better than playing against someone with bright white boots on who can't play to save his life :D

Mizunho boots are very similar. Very comfy and good touch in them.

Shame they only last 2-3 games on average.

I had a pair too, if I recall they were flash but largely useless.

Got to go for the Predators, if I recall they had molded plastic on the toes for that 'Beckham' spin.

(Or whatever you produced out of them.)

They were rubber fins, patented by Craig Johnston ex Liverpool :)
