Call of Duty: Black Ops

unfortunately though with Black ops the host advantage seems massive. I have a 20meg BB connection and it is very clear when you are host or not without having to look at connection bars.

Yes but it's always been that way, I see the difference all the time from playing at mine to trying my nephews connection were he almost always pulls host.

Cod 4 was the same, we would hook a bad host and go find a new lobby. It's certainly no worse for this than MW. I certainly felt the lag in that as much as any others. I remember our parties raging about the same things 'camping' 'lag' and 'killcams'.

I do though find it strange that in GRAW not once did I feel I was being beaten by lag in 1v1's. I was though on a better connection back then but I never worried about host or complained about lag deaths. I will be interested to see how the code stacks up for the new one online.

Which is surely more realistic, no? How is that a problem with the game?

Because often the second hit marker will appear as you are behind a wall then before you know it you are dead.

Maybe hardened perk goes through anything, but I'm not saying it's a problem just an observation. Mean running to a safe area presents more risk IMO.

It's not rubbish. Maybe run and gun was the wrong way of putting it.

On MW2 and COD4 you could be clipped by a few stray rounds and be able to return fire and win the 1 on 1s.

Black ops seems to be whoever fires first wins. Was the same as WAW, the red markers appear to indicate where bullets are coming from but before you can react you are already dead. This is what makes me think that the Treyarch games need a different approach. Its probably why a lot of people are not doing as well in Black ops as in MW2.

Even if you are running you often die after you have gone around the corner (this is in the game - not based on killcams) after someone has just sprayed a load of rounds in your direction. On IW games you could get clipped as going into cover and then return fire.

I'm not 'moaning' about the game, this is just my opinion on the playstyles required for each of the devs. two games

It is rubbish. Running and gunning shouldn't necessarily include blindly running out in to areas, then being disappointed you get shot first.

I've been in many situations when I've been shot first - I've been able to get out the way, and end up killing the bloke. I'm not saying you're telling fibs!!...just that I really don't experience what you talking about anywhere near enough for it to become an issue.

Well on Dom you get people pushing forward and you get people defending , now you cannot defend on this because of the random spawning behind you , you end up getting stabbed in the back , the you respawn a mile away. the
best way I find to play this is sit with your back in a corner
and pick a few people off , then hope they don't spawn
behind you, then call in napalm then rinse and repeat , and if you manage to pull host then your laughing . I prefer hcsd because I like the idea of only one life but find most people at mo will just sit in corner , was never this bad on mw2 and I cannot explaine why.so for me I gotta change from going out full attack trying to search for people and listen for people running around (which is impossible on this) to sitting in a corner with sniper rifle or ak74u

I dunno

Im seeing Black Ops sitting very nicely between the WaW and MW2 mulitplayer.

Started the other night and got 5 kills with the MP5 within about 30 seconds. Could never do that on WaW, BO just seems a fair slicker setup with firefights having a degree of predictability as there is no juggernaut, stopping power - is there even pain killer?. Also games like domo the thumper drops on to the flag as soon as they are capturing has been eradicated so its all about pace to get to the flags, good team coverage and the proper weapons for the map. Good stuff :D

If you want run and gun try nuketown on recruit combat training! EPIC!

Personally, it's a non-issue for me. Certainly doesn't take away any of the fun.

Same - I do enjoy it and had a great session on Monday night. Nuketown against a US host is just rage inducing though. Especially as to get a game you need to have global searchs as local doesnt seem to work after 11pm.

Its amazing how people have different experiences on these games obviously connection dependant but I've never ever been clipped going round a corner in an IW game and been able to return fire.

If I had a quid for everytime I thought I made it into a safe spot round the corner to then drop dead I would be able to buy a russian bride.

Now I know Alrik will back me up on this because I lost count of the amount of rage he vented when round a corner dropping dead :D

Completely agree with this.

I think the spawning is the biggest issue, I guess that is also a problem with running around. You can clear and area and then cover the entry points only for the other team to appear behind you.

Once the patch the spawning it should get a lot better

I think allot to do with it is that on mw2 when maybe 3 shots would take someone down , on this takes allot more ,unless your playing hc. I found by using famas with extended mags was the only way to get a couple kills in one clip

I have to add the the random spawning stops the spawn trapping but I still think it's abit retarded at mo

Jonny I was having crazy net probes with be , but I upgraded fw and it's been online 11 days no disconnects , from disconnecting every couple hours. Your on be and using bebox?

Yes Im with BE with the default Speedtouch 585v7 router. I upgraded a while back but Ive had a new router since, I need to check that. Im starting to think its a line fault due to the crackling I get on the phone when it starts to drop.

Now to me that is more Killstreak rapage than I ever saw in MW2.

That is absolutley ridiculous how people just spawn in the same place over and over. The only time they get out of the spawn is when the CG goes around the other side of the house.

NOTE to self. Camp on nuketown for a CG

The guy is not camping he runs to the enemy spawn thinks it is skill when all it boils down too is having host and knowing that the enemy drops by throwing peanuts at them, if he was skilled he would use cover etc but all I see is him run to spawn go prone and shoot them as they come out

It's the drop shooting I hate , it's used all the time on hcsd, I am sure people are programming there controllers to go into prone when they press a trigger button

Er, as he came round the corner you already started to turn in the direction he was coming FROM. He beat you fair and square in that clip. You can see your gun starts to fire, but it's quite a bit off target.

yep but the reason I highlited that clip was because I actually started firing the milisecond I had seen him, but in the vids it never shows this but I guess I am crap at these games as this happens over and over. It was probably one of the worse connection games I had played to date on that one. the end score for me was 1 for 18 or something stupid like that we lost as I could not even get to bomb sites to plant. The one kill I had was a round wining kill which took a full clip of Famas at about 21/2 meters to a guy looking in the other direction, he still had time to turn and put two bullets in me during this time.

Soooooooooo I played demolition again earlier and had a good connection game no change to my playstyle and had MVP @ 48 for 9 and planted both sites, I could tell that it was the reverse to the video as the enemy let out 1 bullet when going 1 on 1 to me droping them in seconds. I could basically run in to thier spawn and kill 4 - 5 of them without a problem.

Instead of 3arch worying about people getting on a ledge at B3 on array, they need to balance the net issues with the game as an absolute priority, how much more evidence do they need.

I'd say running and gunning is only way to survive unless you got your back against a wall.

Maybe your right, I just find that running and gunning usually means i get shot in the back by someone whos just spawned. If you camp you tend to go somewhere no one can get you from behind.

So I guess camping is no good, but moving around and being aware of the enemy possibly spawning next to you should always be in your mind.

I guess once you learn spawn points it all changes, a bit like Crash on MW2 and COD4. Just hold B and C and they keep spawning at A as you then pick them off as they come through the 2 choke points.

Black Ops has probably tried to get around this by the random spawning, but this is not without it's own issues. Getting a domination point on your own is pretty difficult
