Milkies

Ill explain the 28pints by saying my 1 year old lad has just moved onto cows milk and he still has 4 bottles of it per day, thats around 32 fl oz per bottle (1/2 pint?) So hes on about 2 pints per day, then the rest is me mainly (cereal which is 2 big bowls ie 4 weetabix per bowl and cups of tea)... the misses sometimes has some and my 3yo daughter maybe a milkshake or hot milk for bed.

So we easily chug through a 4 pint carton each day unfortunately :(

We used to get it delivered at my old work but not here at home, no. We don't really get through that much milk which, if you think about it, is probably a better reason to not buy it from the supermarket :(

I get mine from the milkman. Nothing like getting it from the doorstep at this time of year and having it on cornflakes. Absolutely lovely. Cant say the same about mid June though. :p

An interesting story that took place in the late nineties:

We were going for a day trip somewhere and my dad tooka 'short cut' through a residential area and ended up following a milk float. The float pulls up outside a house and the milkman gets out and goes to the door where he was met in a passionate embrace by a scantily clad woman.

The milk float is blocking the road but has a mobile number on the back, after 5 minutes being stuck between a milk float and a rubbish truck my dad called the number expecting the milkman to answer. The person who answered wasnt the milkman, and my dad told them what was going on (expecting it to be a chain of dairies), it turned out to be the guys wife who wasn't with him at the time!

Milk delivered daily is fresh and probably hasn't been sat in a warm warehouse waiting to go onto the shelves for hours.....lost count of the amount of supermarket milk that we have lost due to it going sour within the sell by date

We go through about 20 pints a week and have only ever had one '6 pint' bottle go sour before the use by date. We told the Tesco delivery dude the next week and he refunded us for it.

Does sound like your fridge is set too warm Fatboy tbh, I've never seen milk go sour within at least the first 4-5 days from any source. I'm sure the odd bottle does get left out, but it would be incredibly rare. Most people tend to get smaller bottles of milk more often rather than bigger bottles, so its just more likely your delivered milk isn't kept cold enough, but you use it within a day or two rather than a 2-6pint carton you'd get from the supermarket which in a not cold enough fridge would go off before you could finish it.

Also, did the OP say he has 8 weetabix every morning? I find that more shocking that 28pints of milk a week tbh. Unless you're a professional athlete burning off a few thousand extra calories more than most people thats an insanely large breakfast meal.

Use a milkman too, though like others have said the price is a bit steep so split the total required between him and the local friendly Sainsburys..

I do remeber seeing a local ad a few years back for a milkman. Wasn't bad. Upto £30k a year and company vehicle!! Not sure if they still pay that much.

Times are hard, I don't even know if there is a milk man round in my area but I'm going to go with the cheapest option which is the supermarket.

We only go through 4 pints a week on average so it's not much hassle to add it to the weekly shop and carry it home.

Would probably be a lot more expensive for me as I get through lots of milk each week.

I always see the milkman drive down my street every morning at different times. Maybe I should sleep for once. :o

Birds always used to peck the tops off our milk to get at the cream and it was a inconvenient having him come round for payment, I hate answering doors at night.

Now I just buy Cravendale, lasts for ages and tastes nicer.

It's a dead trade as far as I can see, sad but there you go

Fresh bottled milk tastes better than the supermarket stuff. Don't think we have a milkman in our area anymore though :(

Always nice and creamy too. So is the milk. ;)

Haven't seen a milkman like that ever but the milk van that drops off at Tesco and the dairies let's you buy direct if you catch them up!
