Best card for £250?

Hi

the wife agreed to upgrade my card for Christmas
what sort of card am I looking at for around £250 please,
Is it worth buying second hand to acquire a more powerful card as instead of buying new?

or not worth the risk?

Nvidia suggestions only please (I dislike ATI, dont know why though lol)

2nd hand gtx480, 2 went for £220 each on the MM with waterblocks so you might get change from £250

I would wait for the GTX475, that will cost about £250~

CF 6850's if you could pay a bit more or SLI GTX460's?

Both are amazing for the price.

Edit: Ah damn it seems you board doesn't support either? if that's the case then i suggest waiting for the above card or a 6950.

yeah sold my sli board as was having to many issues, prefer 1 card now lol

5870 are £250 now but the tech is out of date but still a nice card

probably not the "best" value for money but if you want a single card for 250 it fits the bill

lol the 6900 series isn't far away imo he's a little late for this card.

i know i have one but i'm on the verge of upgrading.
i wouldn't recommend any thing that didn't perform

Now is the wrong time for £250, wait till mid december and see if the 69xx series has turned up or the 570.

Don't buy a 480, far too loud

Right now it's 470 or 6870, both are well under £250

The MSI GeForce GTX 470 Twin Frozr II is currently on offer at £205:

That cooler will keep the temp and noise level at bay, but the system would still require a decent 550W+ PSU to have comfortable headroom for overclocking the CPU and the card.
