So, it's that time of the year again to renew my car insurance. Never made a claim in 9 years of driving, I get my renewal letter to find it's almost £70 more expensive than last year. So ... done a couple of quotes online to find it's coming in between £380-£500, old insurers quoted me £300! I've been driving 9 years, im 29 and it's only a Focus!

Who are you with? :)

Admiral.

Was a small bit on this on Watchdog last week or so (Anne and I have a love hate relationship), and it was saying a lot of people are seeing big hikes this year. Insurers are starting to rate the area more for car insurance so if by some chance where you live has seen a lot of accidents they have decided you will stand more chance of one yourself :(

Last 20 years have seen..
1) Dramatic increase in TWOCing etc
2) Cars becoming a lot more expensive to repair, direct parts and labour costs
3) The risk of the uninsured driver (Ins cos are forced to pic up the bills)
4) PI claims for every minor bump
5) Massively reduced income from Ins Cos investments so they have to charge more up front rather than making on the investment of your premium in bonds or shares or whatever

They are also making more money again which they wern't a while ago, they are nota charity so they will set prices to make money again if short term factors stopped them for a while.

I read an article how scamming has bumped up prices.
Have you heard the stories about cars pulling forward at a junction and then suddenly stopping/reversing then claiming for injuriess even though it was like a 5mph dent?
Thats why pirces have also jumped.

Got my renewal through the door, pay monthly and paying £31 currently renewal says its going up to £40 so thats a nice increase of £108 for being a safe and good driver

6 years NCB
Never claimed, crashed or had points
1.3 Yaris

Trying to get others quotes and they are coming out at £500+

The amount of claims made over the last year or so has gone through the roof, so unfortunately so must the price of insurance to cover this.

that gives me an idea, I'm gonna attach some box thing to my dash over on the passenger side and make it look a bit techie.. if someone tries that sort of scam on me I'll tell them I have it recorded..... i bet a lot of these people will not bother to claim if they think you have a video of it

Mine is due on the 5th Dec. I paid £480~ this year I think and I've been doing quotes now for a few weeks and cheapest I've managed to get it to was £550-£600.

Get a text from my insurer to say renewal is now online and to login and check it out. They're quoting me £430, so for the first time ever in the history of insurance I think the best thing is to just accept my renewal quote!

Wow, that is a rarity! Cant say I have ever had the renewal be lower :(
This year on the wifes focus they (admiral) doubled the price for renewal!

Whats the price of the average claim?

Whats the price of the average policy?

Claims are paying out more than ever so guess who foots the bill.

1)We pay more to cover un-insured drivers.
2)Insurance prices go up
3)People cant afford insurance and drive un-insured
Loop

you forgot to add, person has small bump, claims 1000's whiplash loss of earning, expensive car hire....

I do find it amusing that people compare their insurance premiums and say "why is mine so much more??" :p

The reason you get asked so much information is because its all used to rate your policy!
The make, model, value, age, modifications, postcode, parking etc etc etc ALL have a bearing on your premium!

I work in insurance and I've seen a premium literally double all because of a simple mid-term address change!

Just shop around and be sure to look at the small print - never has the adage "you get what you pay for" been so apt than in insurance!

i'm in the process of changing cars (from a coopers S to a 56 plate Peugeot hdi 1.6 gt diesel).

Policy started around Aug this year. Rang up to see if my premium would change and they said it would be around £970 meaning i would have to add around £250ish for the remaining year. I was shocked!

Rang up again yesterday, a different person dealt with my (same) enquiry. It's all logged on their system but this time she managed to change over without chaning the premium one bit... i don't think adding my wife's name on the policy this time round would have impacted it that much :P

(with Adrian Flux.. been with them for years and they're pretty good)

Everything's getting more expensive... 20% vat just round the corner too.

Pretty much the same for me as well last week, renewal was £330 with no new quotes sub £450!
