My Golf - Update thread

I Like Shmidt rims, they look great with a bit of stretcho. Stupidly expensive though...

Yep, will have a ticket by the end of this week, then I'll fit the new fanimold and get some decent sound clips :)

Had the welding done yesterday and got the MOT today. Also, these arrived:

And here they are installed (sorry for the abysmal phone pics, the iPhone camera really is pathetic in low-light ) :

I was concerned that they would stop it sounding as good, but they still sound great. If anything it sounds a little better, more 'bassy' and less 'hissy'. The sound of the manifold farting is still detracting from the awesomeness of the carbs, so I'll get the new one fitted ASAP then I'll get some decent sound clips :)

Duuuuuuuuude no video with the carbs on? I r dissapoint :(

Looking tidy though man, I'd rake it a little bit but that's just me :D

OK, bit of an update. I finally got my finger out and fitted the new exhaust manifold (sorry again for the crap pics):

I also had a new exhaust centre section fitted today (custom stainless jobbie) to replace my crappy bodged centre resonator box. There are now two 'boxes' in the exhaust rather than three, it sounds nice and deep without being loud at all, in fact under throttle you can barely hear the exhaust over the intake noise of the carbs.

Will be getting it on a local dyno one day next week to check the fuelling's OK, then I might get round to doing some vids :D

May find it better to have one large airfilter. Than those 4 small ones.
Can lose a fair bit of power with those filters.

I made a video, first couple of minutes is just bimbling about to give you an idea of how it sounds during general driving, skip to around 2:10 to hear what it sounds like when giving it some beans :D :

Jesus, the general public round your way drive as excruciatingly slowly as they do round here. Sounds good and looks like it pulls well.

Indeed they do, it's painful :(

Yeah it pulls through the gears really nicely, throttle response is fantastic too

two problems with it,

The cam belt pulley can sometimes hit the master cylinder, so a racing mount is on order to stiffen it up, if that fails, then a change of master cylinder to something else.

And its so fast you cant really use it properly, your constantly closing on other cars to quickly so always on the brakes.
