Hey guys, I wanted to book a holiday in Europe for my girlfriends 30th, neither of us drive so I was wondering if anyone knew of any nice places which were close to airports/sights etc.

I have no preference where in Europe.

Cheers for any suggestions :)

Lol i was half expecting that :P I dont mind getting trains and buses, was a bit worried tho if i booked somewhere which ended up to be miles and miles away from everything, and i would end up spending my whole holiday on a bus

Who drives on holiday? Every single family holiday I ever went on we got on a coach at the airport and got driven to a hotel. Every single city break I use the train/bus to get from the airport into the city.

I don't remember ever driving on holiday, so I don't think it will affect you too much :/

The only times I haven't been on a coach I've been in a taxi.

Works fine in this country as well if you don't rely on it for work.

Having to wait an extra 2 hours for an overpriced, old/smelly train full of chavs on a cold miserable platform is not "working fine"
Half the London underground stinks of **** and vomit for gods sake ....

Compare that to Brussels or Spain where trains are somehow on time, and cheaper.

Just book somewhere and worry about it later.

Me and my girl are going to Croatia in February, to see the Plitvice waterfalls.
200 snots for return flights to Dubrovnik, and we're going to use trains to get around the country.

We've since found out that there is no train station in Dubrovnik.

:D

Trains are usually on time, never had. Problems using public transport for weekends away in uk. To expensive there's mega bus for international city.

Guess you must be lucky then, I just drive now as I'm sick of being cold while I wait for a delayed/cancelled train (last time it was due to there being "no driver" .... WHY IS THE SYSTEM NOT AUTOMATED YET FFS?)

Simple, go to Brugge, she will love it, you can go by train (very nice views from france to belgium as well) and it's small enough to see the whole place from Sat morning to Sun evening and get back too!

Great food, great beer, waffles with speculoos, stress free and lots of chocolate to buy (quite a few sightseeings as well)

We've spent countess holidays aboard without driving and got to see many sights that are a distance from the “resort”. Used buses, coaches and as a last resort taxis. With a bit of planning and resourcefulness you can get to see whatever you want and it’s fun.

I think that OP needs a good city break in somewhere like Barcelona or Bruges and if it's art you’re after head for somewhere different like Florence.
