My first car was a honda civic back in 1990 but my Mrs killed it when she wrote it off in 1998. Since then I've always fancied getting another but never really got round to it. I have now been given permission to look for a (used) car this weekend but just been looking at civics on the net and there's loads to choose from. I'm looking at spending 14k tops but I'd like something a bit sportier than my current 1.4 Skoda. I currently do about 11k a year just to/from work with the occasional trip up north when I have to.

I'm also not 100% sold on getting a civic so if anyone has any other recommendations for similar cars I'll take a look at them.

I'm 44 now so no chav-mobiles please :)

The only sporty Civic that Honda do these days is the 07+ Civic Type-R FN2 unless you're looking to import and even they have been discontinued although still available new

Its not really like the old school Honda stuff, its a lot more refined, its a nice car but it could have been a lot better, you would easily get an approved used one from a dealer for that, maybe go for a test drive?

Others are the RS Renaults, Clio and Megane, a bit more focussed than the Honda, I used to love my Honda's but they dont seem to offer anything like what they used to so i'm going to eye up a Clio when the time is right

What is it that you like about the Civic? It's a young mans car tbh. If I were 44 and spending 14k on a car I think the last thing I'd buy is a civic.

No that's the Jazz, and has been for the best part of 10 years, do keep up ;)

I don't know, I've seen a lot of people with hairy nostrils driving the current gene civic - normally in that horrible beige colour. Civic for the old men, jazz for Doris

155 Honda Cars are being Photographed tomorrow for Auction, could pick yourself up a bargain FN2 Type-R, seen a couple in the mix including a few Championship white ones.

These are just cars that cant quite make a Grade 2 market report for sale in the second hand market.

How is a Civic a young man car? The non Type-R versions are very popular with older people who see them as being completely reliable, economical motoring.

LOL back at you

0% commission, as they are being done direct.

Sounds like a bunch of shabby ones if they are not good enough for sale, I mean lets face it your average Honda dealer is hardly the most discerning when picking used stock.

Some of them are Shabby, probably about 6% of them.

But there are also 60 plate CR-Z's amongst the bunch with just some trim plastics with scratches that are about an inch too long for example.

To make a Grade2 car, every ding/scratch/mark/etc has to be within a certain length/depth/quantity.

so a lot of the cars do look mint.

So why are they not being sold through retail then given there are numerous approved used cars on Honda dealers forecourt with a bit of wear here and there?

so obviously stuff that isn't quite good enough to make grade 2. How bad the scratches etc.. are that means they cant make grade 2 will vary for car to car obviously !

Thanks for that Captain Obvious.

It would make sense if every AUC on a Honda dealers forecourt was a box fresh minter, but this isn't the case.
